Kazmir to Astros

Never trade with Billy. Especially within the division. He knows something we all don't.

Actually, there is quite a feeling on the Astro board that the Astros got taken.....getting a rental pitcher with a long injury history that will be at best a number 3 or 4 pitcher. The Astros gave up number 19, and22 prospect, including the best hitting catcher in the organization.

This trade is nothing to write home about.

I love the trade. Astros didn't give up any of their top 20 prospects. It gives the 'Stros another solid arm without giving up much of the future. Nottingham looked good, but who knows with those single A prospects. He was 2-4 seasons away from even being called up

actually....they did give up a top 20 prospect....well...number 19 anyway.

He does have an injury history. But they only need him to be healthy for a few months. (and this boosts the chance of him signing with the team this offseason).

Sorry to tell you, but he is not a #3 or 4 at best. He slots in quite nicely as a #2. The guy has 2.38 ERA, 1.08 WHIP with 101/35 K/BB ratio in 109 2/3 innings for Oakland this year. Thats quite a nice year. Even if he is only a 3, they will need that in the playoffs if they make it. They can't pitch Keuchel every time. And the young arms of McCullers and Velasquez are blowing by their most innings pitched ever in a year in their respective lifetimes and will wear down.

Neither player they gave up was highly heralded coming in to the year. Both have had nice years at the low levels. But that doesn't always project. Nottingham has struggled to hit since being promoted. And the pitcher is projected as a solid long relief guy with 4 pitches and maybe a back end rotation starter. Nothing to write home about.

This is bullshit.

This is bullshit.

Consider it bullshit if you want.....Kaz WILL be at best a number 3 ....his home era in Oakland was below one...everywhere else it was pretty high.

Nottingham was over 300 at both levels in the minors....low levels admittedly.

I hope it works well for us. If Kaz can stay healthy and we can sign him next year, the trade will work ok

Kazmir has a 0.45 ERA since July 1. That is the best ERA in baseball.

Not bad for a #3 or #4 starter AT best huh?

And they are already talking extension and the guy says he wants to stay in his hometown.
