One of the funniest things I've ever seen at what was then known as "Memorial Stadium," happened sometime between 1979 and 1983. Does anyone remember this?
Just a bit before kick-off, In true Ugga/Bevo fashion , the Baylor bear mascot handlers had two black bear cubs on collar and chain, and got them a bit too close to Bevo.
Bevo goes apeshit and the cubs make a dash for it, tearing away from their handlers and make a mad dash for the NE corner of the stadium (where ol' Smokey was located at the time). The handlers take off in hot pursuit.
Meanwhile, the cubs (who should have been on the Baylor track team instead of having mascot duty), did a world class 100-yard dash and are within 5 yards of Smokey. The Texas Cowboys, fearing a confrontation, fire off the cannon just feet from the bears faces.
The cubs virtually shit themselves while reversing course at Warp 9 back down the field where they were met and calmed down by their handlers. The entire stadium was howling in laughter (except for those who were wearing green, for some odd reason).
The cubs then left the stadium and IIRC, weren't seen again the rest of the game.
Anyone else remember this gem?
