I've had GERD/Acid Reflux for several years. Been on Pepcid/Prilosec off and on for a long time. I read recently that Tumeric at 500mg capsules taken 3-4 times per day was studied and compared to Prilosec and found to be equally effective. Has anyone tried this regimen yet? I've weaned myself off Prilosec and started taking Tumeric 500 mg 4 times a day.

I just don't want to be on these other drugs the rest of my life, the long term side effects of potential bone loss or kidney problems is a risk. I don't know how much of a risk they are, so if any docs on the board know of long term studies, please provide that info in this thread.

TIA

UPDATE:

Well...that didn't take long, the tumeric regimen is NOT working. Got reflux this morning, haven't had that burning since taking Prilosec.

So, I'm going to talk to my doc and see if I can stay on Prilosec long term and see if I can monitor my kidney function, get on a multivitamin, and just keep an eye on things.

My last physical in January showed no signs of issues taking Prilosec, so hopefully I can stay on it or maybe my doc can give me a safer alternative. I'm going to see my Gastro doc as well.

Thanks again for the responses.
