First, let me say this. From following recruiting the past few years I put no stock in commitments until the final month. I've almost reached the point where I won't follow recruiting until the last month, because that's all that really matters. Of course you need to develop relationships, but commits that happen over a month out until NSD are virtually worthless IMO.

Here's a few guys that I know will be at Texas Junior day. LB Dontavious Jackson, DB Eric Monroe, LB Jeffrey McCulloch. I'll add more guys once I hear who will be attending JR day. JR day should give us more insight into who Texas is targeting.

My favorite so far besides our commits (hello super Collin Johnson!) is Lil'Jordan Humphreys.

Just let me scream touchdown Lil'Jordan for UT!

A&M just landed a FG kicker in the 2016 class. That's two kickers on scholarship in back to back classes for A&M. I don't understand that.

Yeah after checking out the 2016 class, I hope Strong hits Florida hard again. Not overly impressed with what Texas has to offer. D-line and DB prospects in Texas are good, but not seeing a lot of elite talent elsewhere.

Wait a minute here.

You're not impressed with the level of football recruits in Texas?

What?!

Don't sleep on the crop of 2016 recruits yet, there will be some that turn some heads this year. Just need to develop and grow. Another year of high school ball and some motivation will make some no name guys into house hold names one day.

What are our chances with Kendell Jones? Guy looks like a monster.

Sleeper Alert! MLB/FB Zech Hopkins, Cuero. Yes, D'Anthony's little brother. Hopefully he keeps his grades up unlike his brother. Reminds me of Steve Edmond, but probably more athletic.

Everyone's blood pressure is finally going down after the last hectic week before NSD and your starting over again? COOL!

Two guys you have to love UT's chances with are JP Urquidez and Devwah Whaley.

I hear J.P. loves UT and Devwah Whaley is P.J. Locke's buddy.

Dallas or Austin, one day.

Right on. Shoot me your email and we'll hook it up.

"A&M just landed a FG kicker in the 2016 class. That's two kickers on scholarship in back to back classes for A&M. I don't understand that."

I scratched my head on that a bit myself. He is rated as the number 2 kicker in the country, so I guess that's good, but 2 straight years is a little odd. We were good on the kicking front last year but past years have been BRUTAL, so maybe he feels he has to have this.

I really like Eric Fowler's game. That's the first guy that stood out to me after watching film of most the 2016 guys.

If this happens in Austin you guys have to count me in as well.... Shit I have been here going on 12 years myself, and you 2 have been here the whole time... would be cool to hang out and put down a few cold ones with some true Horns from OB.

Both kids punt and and are kickers. The plan is to find one punter and one with a kickoff and field goal kicking between the two guys. Not at all out of the normal since kaser will be a senior this year. I agree with fowler being an absolute stud. Kid has Von miller type speed off the edge. I've heard he needs to get his grades up, but he has a lot of time. Kendall jones looks like an absolute freak but Oliver has the better tape by far. He likes LSU a lot.

"Tell me what you think of the MLB/FB film I posted above."

Looks athletic. How big is he? A little undersized it seems, but maybe he ends up somewhere other than LB.

6'1" 195 it shows on hudl. He'll probably get bigger though. He should be at least as heavy as Cherry by time his senior year starts. I love his pursuit. Not bad when the opponent can get a guy running loose deep down the sideline, and your MLB is the one that runs him down from waaaay behind. (6:00 mark). His brother the star RB played at 6'2" 220 last year, I think Zech will be about that size. Plus he's going to have to step his game. That was D'Anthony's team, now he's gone, so they're gonna lean heavily on Zech on both sides of the ball.

24/7 saying RB Trayveon Williams of Houston King will be at a Junior Day on the 28th (edit: not sure whose junior day this is referencing).

Highlights from the Higdon chat on 2016 recruiting:

- The staff loves 4* QB Shane Buechele. He recently took an unofficial visit to Texas, has made several in the past but many of his family have gone/are going to Oklahoma. Will attend the upcoming Junior Day. "Great kid who can really spin the football."

- People tend to overestimate the effect of hiring Texas HS coaches on recruiting. Strong's goal is to win over the family and the recruit, more so than the coach, and his methods have borne fruit with the #7 class in the country despite coming off a 6-7 season without strong friendships with many of the power coaches in the state.

- Strong likes to meet kids' families, and is in no hurry at all to fill the 2016 class.

- 2016 class will sign ~20 kids on NSD.

- Higdon was specifically told not to announce the date of the Junior Day. But he confirms it won't be the 14th.

- Higdon really really REALLY likes S Brandon Jones, DE Justin Madubuike, and QB Dwayne Haskins. Says we can forget about landing Malik Henry or Shea Patterson at the QB position.

- At DE, Erick Fowler, Mark Jackson, and Madubuike like Texas and have "real interest".

- WR Tre Nixon talks directly to Strong as well as BJM. Very high on our radar.

- No updates on a grad transfer QB. Matthew Merrick's status (full scholarship or grayshirt) will be made known by the end of next week.

- Thinks Connor Williams will be the surprise of our O-line class. Expects to see both Hodges and Vahe (when he's 100% healthy) get playing time

- DT recruiting won't suffer with Rumph's departure.

- No updates on new asst. coaching hires

- Florida won't venture into the state of Texas just because they signed Rumph.

- Ideal combination of QB and RB for 2016 is Shane Buechele and Devwah Whaley... both are extremely high-priority targets for the staff.

- Texas will take TWO tight ends in 2016, and likely only one safety.

- Texas will take 6/7 linemen total in the 2016 class (both offensive and defensive). "OL could be a big OOS year" (implying that our chances are dim with Little and Hudson, perhaps?).

- There isn't yet an equivalent of Malik Jefferson in this year's class.

- Texas will likely take only one more WR this class (in addition to Johnson and Hemphill)

- 5* QB Shea Patterson will go where his brother ends up.

- Higdon doesn't think Traylor will be the guy Strong ends up hiring.

- The staff sees Demarco Boyd playing OLB... with Cherry and Wheeler as inside guys and Hager as a hand-in-the-dirt DE.

- "I believe Texas has roughly 14 seniors give or take. I always add in roughly 3-5 give or take attrition. That would be kids kicked off bc of grades, law or stupidity. Or leaving early for NFL. Meaning you will see the NSD class of 2016 at or around 19 maybe. I actually believe we may see higher attrition and the class will get to 20-21 range."

- 5* QB Malik Henry is a lock for FSU.

- At defensive line, Texas is recruiting the following kids the hardest: DT Kendell Jones, DT Ed Oliver, DE Justin Madubuike, DE Erick Fowler. Jones likes the staff a lot, but the new DL coach coming in will be big.

- On other QB offers: "long way to go before I start talking about other offers but there is another QB who is very close imo to landing one for sure"

- Johnson's announcement is huge.

- Higdon thinks there will be another 2016 ringleader, similar to what Murray was last year... Thinks Boyd will do some work recruiting guys, but so will Greg Little.

11 Louisville Cardinals invited to the NFL combine. That ties Bama. Only FSU with 12 had more..
