MUSINGS FROM THE DISCH

8 series in the books and 7 series wins. Outside of a disastrous weekend against BYU, the Horns have done everything require of them to put them in contention to win a Big 12 title. In a year which the conference is down compared to normal standards, the biggest takeaway is that anything can happen and shockingly, there have been many more sweeps than in years past. This past weekend is a great example of that, in which Oklahoma went to Lubbock and swept Texas Tech, while Cincinnati took two of three from 2nd place West Virginia.

For the Horns, the goal remains the same, get into the post season and let the chips fall where they may. Winning the Big 12 looks like a long shot at present simply due to the nature of the teams remaining on the schedule, and the ability of Oklahoma to sweep, whereas Texas has proven incapable of that feat. The good news is that the Horns are firmly locked into a NCAA Tournament berth and barring an absolutely epic let down, the likes of 2019, Texas will be in Regional play as a 3 seed or potentially even as a 2 seed.

Overall, the Horns have six remaining games, three at UCF and three in Austin against Kansas. If the Horns are able to secure two series wins, it may be enough to put them as high as the 2nd place team, but most likely as the third place team.
