For the first time this season, the Texas Longhorns hit the road and head to Houston to play in the Astros Foundation College Classic at Minute Maid Park. The Horns will play three games this weekend at the juice box, starting on Friday night against the defending national champions and #3 ranked LSU Tigers. On Saturday afternoon, the Horns will then take on familiar foe Texas State, before wrapping up against another familiar for in #9 Vanderbilt. In its 10 previous appearances, Texas has a 16-14 all-time record at the event.
This weekend does not just represent the first away series for the Horns, it also represents the first real major test of the season. Nothing against San Diego, who I think is probably better than folks give them credit for, or the other cast of characters that have visited the Disch over the past week, but this is the real deal. This weekend kicks off a slate of four games that will give all fans a good view of where the Horns sit in the pecking order nationally and represent that last non-conference games before kicking off Big 12 play next weekend.

Team Matchups:
- #3 LSU Tigers - First matchup between the Horns and Tigers was 1899. The latest meeting occurred just last season in Austin, when the #1 Tigers came to town and were shut down for the first 2/3 of the game by Lebarron Johnson Jr, eventually coming out as winners 3-0. The Horns have a 28-14-1 series lead over the Tigers, but are just 3-4 all-time in neutral venues. Texas and LSU meet for the third-straight season and the 10th time since 2018.
- Texas State - Texas and Texas State have met every season since 1988 (except the shortened 2020 season) and this will be the first of three games this season. The Horns have a 55-14 all-time series lead over the Bobcats. Last season, the Horns won 5-2 in San Marcos, but lost 3-9 at the Disch. In neutral site games, the Horns lead Texas State 2-0.
- Texas fell to Vanderbilt 2-12 during opening weekend last season as part of the College Baseball Showdown in Arlington. Vanderbilt lead the all-time series against the Horns 8-7, with a 2-1 lead in neutral site games.
