KD to pass Shaq (8th All-Time NBA Leading Scorer)

With 33 points tonight (at Charlotte), KD will pass Shaq (28,596) and move into 8th place on the all-time leading scoring list. After that, it is truly rarified air, Wilt Chamberlain is 7th (31,419).

Side notes of interest:

* Greg Oden career NBA scoring total: 840

* LaMarcus Aldridge (20,558) had a sneaky-good NBA career. He overcame numerous injuries, and a serious heart ailment.

* Moses Malone’s last NBA field goal – a three-pointer (outside the arch – from 80 feet).

Texas BASEBALL v. Washington Huskies - Sat Game Thread

The Longhorns look to rebound on Saturday afternoon as they take on the Washington Huskies at Disch-Falk Field. After the disastrous performance by the bullpen, Coach Pierce had a long talk to his pitching staff in the dugout after the game. Where they go from there will largely depend on them. One other change that Coach Pierce has made is giving catcher Kimble Schuessler the day off and bringing in Peyton Powell to play catcher. Rylan Galvan is not fully back from his thumb injury and the staff does not want to throw true freshman Oliver Service into the mix quite yet, so Powell gets the call. In Powell's place, freshman Casey Borba will get the start at 3B.

For those wondering, Powell came to Texas as a catcher/utility infielder, so he does have experience there and Coach Pierce has praised his efforts behind the plate going back to last year.

Horns Up in Heaven

My family and the Horn family lost the biggest Longhorn I ever knew. David Jack Bolger was the reason I am a Longhorn fan and the reason my son is a Longhorn. David graduated Plan II in the very early 60’s. Was a 4 year member of the band. He always greeted you with a “Hook’em” and left the same way. David passed away this weekend in Scottsdale.

Another reason Trump’s not fit for office either . . .

My complaints about Biden and his mal-administration are well-documented in this forum and far too long to list in a single post, but this is another example of why the narcissist DJT, who’ll put his personal grudges and vanity over national security concerns, will never get my vote either. Nothing could possibly justify this (from Jim Geraghty):

Last week, the House Energy and Commerce Committee voted 50 to 0rare complete bipartisan unity — to move on legislation that would ban TikTok from the U.S. if its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, doesn’t sell it within six months.
Back at the end of July 2020, President Trump declared he intended to ban TikTok, recognizing the popular Chinese-owned app as a national-security threat. “As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States,” he told reporters while aboard Air Force One.
Paul Nakasone, the general who until February served as director of the National Security Agency and commander of U.S. Cyber Command, described TikTok asa loaded gun at our nation’s head,” for reasons of cybersecurity and spyware, and as a tool of Chinese government propaganda. Nakasone was selected for NSA director by Trump, and confirmed by the U.S. Senate unanimously.TikTok is banned from all U.S. government devices.
But Trump just flip-flopped on TikTok, declaring his opposition to getting rid of it.
It’s possible this reflects the influence of billionaire hedge-fund manager and GOP megadonor Jeff Yass, whose fund has a $33 billion stake in ByteDance. But Trump’s publicly stated reason for supporting TikTok is the personal grudge he holds against Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Facebook:
If you get rid of TikTok, Facebook and Zuckerschmuck will double their business. I don’t want Facebook, who cheated in the last Election, doing better. They are a true Enemy of the People!
I’m sure Trump cultists will come up with some twisted rationale to justify this craven about-face. Just pathetic.

It’s hard to think of any presidential election in American history in which we’ve had two worse, bottom-of-the-barrel candidates. Certainly there’s not one in this old’s lifetime.

Not a political thread, I just worry it may affect a bunch of OB's daily life.

Discussion Topic: Would players give up an athletic scholarship in this NIL world?

The topic of the Longhorns roster and NIL has led me to ask a question?

Would players give up an athletic scholarship in this NIL world?

I believe most NCAA rules pertain to the player's scholarship and eligibility (another topic).

If a player is offered a $500K NIL deal, does that player really need or even WANT the strings that are attached to that athletic scholarship? Top players would not have to sign a NLI (National Letter of Intent). They could just show up.

The 85- player scholarship limit would be irrelevant if 20% of your team wasn't on scholarship.

What if you were one of the last players on a college football team but had a $50K NIL deal? Would you give up your athletic scholarship just to stay in the program? If you were a great student, could you replace the athletic scholarship will an academic scholarship?

I believe some of these things happen already. Is it likely to become more frequent in this NIL Wild West World.

I would love to hear your thoughts about these questions. I know it may be too soon, but I think these issues are on the horizon.

President Trump Secures Appeal, Judgment Payment DELAYED

President Trump has secured his appeal in the ongoing E. Jean Carroll case.

Although the appeal is good news, President Trump was still forced to post a $91.6 million bond as an escrow payment pending the appeal.

This means that Carroll will be forced to wait and may not get any of the money at all—here’s to hoping she won’t! Collin Rugg shared more details:

“Donald Trump has posted a $91.6 million bond in the E. Jean Carroll defamation case.

Trump had to pay the money even though he is appealing the case. If he wins the case in appeals court, he can get the money back.

Today's Gift (3-16)

I'd rather live in his world than live without him in mine.
~~~~~~~~ Gladys Knight and the Pips, Midnight Train to Georgia
Hard to believe, but it's been 50 years since this song won the Grammy for Best R&B Vocal. It was written by a former Ole Miss QB, following a phone conversation with an old friend who was moving back to Houston, after a failed attempt to launch an entertainment career in LA. The song tells the story of a woman who does much the same thing. She leaves Georgia to go make her mark in LA, but the "him" to which the lyrics refer is the true love of her life, who chooses to stay behind. The woman eventually realizes that he is more important than her dreams of fame & fortune, so she hops aboard that midnight train, back to the certainty of his love.
Well, it doesn't take much imagination to change those lyrics ever so slightly, and make them a credo for living. Let's say we do nothing more than change "his" to "His," and "him" to "Him." He will always take us back. Grace always bats last.
God bless you all.
