Fresh off WR MVP honors at the UnderArmour camp, Daylon McCutcheon is readying for some spring visits, including a stop in Austin

IMG_6634.jpg

Lucas Lovejoy wide receiver Daylan McCutcheon was already a known commodity prior to last weekend’s Under Armour Next Camp in Dallas, with close to 40 schools having extended scholarships. McCutcheon backed up any and all expectations, taking home wide receiver MVP honors from the camp.

“It feels real good. I came out today just to compete,” McCutcheon said after the camp.” I went up against a lot of DBs, but I had to show everybody what I can do and be able to perform at the highest level.

“I was able to show everybody that I'm a clean route runner, that no DB can guard me or press me.”

Up next, McCutcheon will take a handful of spring official visits before then looking forward to official visits later in the year.

“I actually plan to go visit Texas, Florida State, USC, Ohio State for spring ball,” McCutcheon said. “I don't know the dates right now but I know those schools for sure that I'm going to go see them during spring ball.”

McCutcheon currently has official visits locked in with Ohio State (May 31), USC (June 7), Texas (June 14) and Florida State (June 21).

McCutcheon says he has built up a strong connection with the Texas coaches and they stay in close contact with each other.

“It’s going really good. I actually just talked to them the other day, just being able to connect each and every day, get to know each other better, just see each other and what we're doing,” McCutcheon said.

Included in those talks with the Texas staff are conversations with wide receivers coach Chris Jackson.

“I really like coach Jackson just because of the way he is, just how blunt he is when it comes to football,” McCutcheon said. “He'll tell you straight up whether or not it was good or not. That's what I really like about coach Jackson, he doesn't try to sugarcoat it. He's just straight up.”

A four-star prospect, McCutcheon ranks No. 71 on the Rivals100.

Best Burger Houston

Mother in law is in town from overseas. Feeling like getting a good burger tonight.

Burgers I've tried and I think Pappa's is probably the best if I had to take someone (took her last year).

Pappa's
Broiler
Southwells
Lankford
Ninfa's
Goode Co. Taqueria
Burger Joint
Hopdoddy

I'm sure there are a lot I've tried but likely anything not on this list is where I will lean towards.

We got a first timer here...! Cody Clearman (Sales Director for Orangebloods) Hook 'Em!

As my man Ketch would say, “Yoooo, what’s up everybody?” Certainly nervous, being this is my first time posting on Orangebloods! Someone said that you only get this opportunity once… Well, here goes!

Cody Clearman here. I am honored to be the Sales Director at Orangebloods as at this time in history. A little about me: Dad of 5 boys. If you want to know the quickest way to my heart, bring me a plate of Texas BBQ, 2 fingers glass of whisky neat, and let’s talk Texas! Please keep the beans out of my chili though! We add seared and smoked chuck roast to our chili in my house. Growing up in Texas has proven itself over time to be an honor and I (like most others) talk about it proudly. Spending my formidable years in Breckenridge, after two-a-days were over, we found ourselves running down the hill and splashing into Hubbard Creek Lake as soon as we could! We moved to the North Dallas area later and I was able to play for one of the greatest High School football coaches in Texas history. G.A. Moore! At Celina, I was lucky enough to win the last football game and baseball game I ever played. State Champs in both years solidified friendships and bonds that are still strong today, over 20 years later!

Now, about Orangebloods… WE ARE GROWING! We will never have another time in history when we are entering the SEC and Texas is riding a Burnt Orange wave that’s about to consume the entire country! Times are exciting to put it simply.

If you are, or you know a business owner who would be interested in a conversation centered around a sponsorship/partnership with Orangebloods; I AM YOUR MAN! Please email me at codyclearman@orangebloods.com or shoot me a call or text at 865-324-9490!

The platforms we provide at OB are incredibly timely right now for anyone wanting to promote their business to the greatest fan base on planet Earth!

“Don’t cry please, I can’t take it,” pleaded junior guard Rori Harmon as Texas head coach Vic Schaeffer choked up while receiving the Big 12 Championship trophy.

That the Longhorns were able to host a trophy while Harmon was in sweatpants is a true testament to their depth and toughness.

“When you lose Rori Harmon on December 27th, it’s devastating. I’ve likened it to Apollo 13 and being on that capsule and trying to rework that capsule to get home. And I can say tonight, we got home,” said Schaefer as he broke into tears.

Of course it helps when you have Madison Booker. The freshman phenom stepped up and started playing more point guard after Harmon went down. Tuesday night, Booker was hitting mid-range jumpers like a seasoned vet and scored 26 points to lead the Horns to the title.

“Madison Booker is the truth,” gushed ESPN analyst Sheryl Swoopes during the broadcast of the game.

But as great as Booker has been, this team is where it is because it plays a physical brand of basketball that focuses on rebounding and defense.

The Horns hounded the Cyclones all night and forced 20 turnovers in the game.

“I thought our kids were who they are, they’re just tough y’all,” Schaefer said. “This group is unlike any team that I can remember in a long time, they’re just gritty and tough.”

You could see the toughness around the basket as Texas outrebounded Iowa State 30 to 28. That is no small feat considering the Cyclones had 6-3 center Audi Crooks working in the paint.

Of course, that’s nothing new for UT as it has won on the glass in 29 of its 34 games this season.

Now the Horns come home to await their fate in the NCAA tournament.

Texas (30-4 on the season) has a chance to be a number one seed when the brackets are announced. ESPN currently has the Longhorns ranked just outside with USC getting the last No. 1 spot. The Trojans defeated both UCLA and Stanford during the Pac-12 tournament to move up to that top spot in ESNP’s bracketology.

If it plays out the way the four letter network predicts, then Texas will be the No. 2 seed in the same region as the women of Troy. And as amazing as the Pac-12 has been this year, the Big 12 is pretty darn good at basketball as well.

“I don’t know that we’re going to see anything in the NCAA tournament that we haven’t seen in the Big 12,” said Iowa State head coach Bill Fennelly after the game. “They (Texas) looked like a Final Four team today.”

This Texas squad is certainly playing like a Final Four team and the girls have certainly proved it to their head coach.

“The good Lord has blessed me with the most amazing group of women that I’ve ever been around and they are Texas tough,” Schafer said as the Texas players celebrated during the trophy presentation. “They fight like Hell. They have grit. Their toughness, competitive spirit are off the charts. And you know what? They ain’t done.”

NOW IT’S THE MEN’S TURN

player_huddle_vs_OU.jpg

And by that, I mean the Big 12 men’s basketball tournament is now underway.

Obviously I am not predicting Texas will make a magical run and win the Big 12 tournament this week, that would be optimism bordering on foolishness (you may already know the outcome of UT’s conference run by the time you read this).

That’s not to say that Texas isn’t a good team. It is. It’s just that the Big 12 is such an incredibly loaded conference that it stretches credulity to think Texas could win it.

“I think this year in particular has probably been the deepest from top to bottom of all the years that I've been a part of the Big 12,” Texas head coach Rodney Terry told reporters. “The Big 12 has always had great representation in terms of six, seven or eight teams (in the NCAA tournament) that are always really good. It's always been a physical league with great coaches, coaches that have won national championships. And it’s always been a league where you have tough venues to play in, night in and night out.”

But as tough as the Big 12 is, Texas is finding its form at the right time. The Horns are winners of three of their last four and are now a lock to make the NCAA tournament.

Terry said that he expected the Horns to start off slowly as they worked to get injured players back on the court.

“We’re just evolving into the team that I thought we would be by this time of year,” said Terry. “This is a team right now, playing at the level that we’re playing right now, that we envisioned as our guys got back in the fold. We’re playing at a high level.”

Terry says for this team to win, it needs to play with a lot of energy on the defensive side of the ball.

“Wins and losses get down to your defense and having a defensive mindset,” said Terry. “On any given night that we come in and have a lot of energy and activity on the defensive side of the ball, we’ve been extremely good.”

No matter what happens this March, Texas will need to make over its roster for next season. That works starts on Monday when the transfer portal opens up.

“As guys enter the portal, we’ll be very familiar with their teams, we’ll be very familiar with the players as well,” Terry said. “We have a process in how we go about trying to identify who will be the best fit and the best situation for us in terms of wants and needs.

“I don’t think anybody is just going to rush to a quick decision without having all of their options available for them. There are going to be kids in the portal, early, that may have an interest in a school that’s going to play throughout Monday night (of the NCAA championship game). You’re not going to get completely behind in terms of having an opportunity to get a kid that could potentially fill a need or want for you.”

This is a curious hire to me, not that Texas A&M would choose him, but that Alberts would take it.

Trev Alberts left ESPN because he said he didn’t want to play “second-fiddle” to other network stars such as Kirk Herbstreit. He then went into athletic administration working for the University of Nebraska system, taking the University of Nebraska-Omaha AD position. He didn’t last long there before being tabbed to return to his alma mater as the AD in Lincoln.

So why is he leaving his home school? Does he believe Nebraska is second-fiddle to other Big Ten teams? If so, what does that say about Nebraska? And why would you go to the ultimate second-fiddle school, Texas A&M?

It’s all very strange.

Happy St. Patrick's Day Weekend

I hope everyone enjoys St. Patrick's Day. If you enjoy it too much and get arrested for public intoxication, however, do not have your significant other do what this woman did in my hometown of Arlington, VA ten years ago (I was at that bar crawl for a few minutes at the beginning, and you could tell it was going to be epic). https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...ks-Day-pub-crawl-gets-detained-sobers-up.html

Today's Gift (3-15)

If I have done anything, even a little, to help small children enjoy honest, simple pleasures, I have done a bit of good.
~~~~~~~~~~~~ Beatrix Potter
There's an old fable of sorts, about a woman who gave her husband a beautiful geranium in a clay pot. He placed it on the windowsill, so they could both enjoy it. In the bright sunlight of the next morning, the beauty of the geranium made their old couch look shabby, so they bought a new one and placed it under the windowsill. But as they admired the new couch, they realized that its beauty was wasted, sitting there on old raggedy carpet, so they replaced that too. Now the room was perfect, except for the geranium. It now looked out of place so they discarded it.
I can't speak for the rest of you characters, but for me, I missed a ton of those simple pleasures over the years. Busy working and doing and living, and at times just running in place, eyes straight ahead, paying no mind to the landscape because I was headed...somewhere. That all changed in a single experience, a moment in time. Coming in with my then 15 year old daughter after a summer's day out on Lake Travis (back when it had water in it), we docked the boat, and I hurriedly began gathering up belongings so we could race to the car and go do something else. I became vaguely aware that she was hollering at me, so I turned around impatiently to see why she had interrupted my march to the parking lot. She said nothing, but pointed off to the west toward a glorious sunset. God Himself had used most of the colors on His palette to paint that sky, and I had missed not only the sunset but also the look of wonder on my child's face.
I took a couple of photos with my cheap cell phone, and for Christmas, I had two of them matted and framed, one for each of us. It's my avatar here, and the framed version also hangs on the wall opposite my desk as a daily reminder of the glorious simple pleasures all around me.
What can we see today with our hearts, that our eyes have missed?
Blessings,
NT
OT: Vertigo/Dizzness Treatments...UPDATE 3/15/24
I just got back from the doc, I've had dizziness/room spinning for about 4 days when I wake up. Turns out I may have an inner ear issue where crystals that shouldn't be in a portion of my inner ear are stuck causing these symptoms. I was told to try the Epley Manuever which moves these crystals out of the area and was prescribed a steroid pack for inflamation as well as some other med for dizziness.
I'm curious if any of you have had the same issue and if you've done anything else to treat this condition. I have seasonal allergies and not surprised that I may have fluid in my ears as well.
Sudafed and an antihistamine have helped some, but it sucks to wake up and have the room spinning and dizziness until the meds start to work.
I just tried the Epley manuever and it seems to help, will know once I wake up tomorrow if it worked, i.e. if the crystals have been removed.
Oh and in before/where's the punchline guy, this is no joke, vertigo SUCKS!
5-star Michael Fasusi talks upcoming visits, interest in Texas
IMG_6577.jpg
Offensive tackle Michael Fasusi had a great outing in the Under Amour Next camp in Dallas on Sunday. The five-star out of Lewisville (TX) is still undecided on his commitment and ranks just outside of the top 10 in the nation amongst the class of 2025.
When asked what stands out to Fasusi when deciding on taking an official visit and not taking an official visit he said, “Find something that’s home to me. That’s what I really look forward to … somebody I can build a relationship with on and off the field.”
Login to view embedded media
Fasusi has set up an official visit with Texas on June 21 and is set to take an unofficial visit on April 9. Fasusi also shared which schools he has a great relationship with alongside the coaches.
“Missouri up there, OU is up there, A&M is up there, and I like Oregon,” Fasusi said.
Texas is on Fasusi radar, along with others, but we asked Fasusi if fans are crazy to assume that his race will come down to Texas and OU. His response …“No, I like to put Missouri in there.”
Fasusi is not unfamiliar when it comes to visiting Austin, and when he plans to visit there this spring and summer, a deeper dive could be in the cards for what is to be planned.
“Now they’re kind of getting me more focused on my major,” Fasusi said. "We’re getting deeper and deeper into the football part, we’re watching films and all that so yeah, I think we’re getting deeper and deeper into the show.”
When asked how it feels when Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood is breaking down film for you, Fasusi said “Oh man it’s amazing. I think he does a good job of doing it, I’ve learned a lot, a few things I’m going to show at this camp… but he’s a great coach in general. He knows what he’s doing.”
Fasusi put on a performance in Dallas this past weekend, and has committed to the 2025 Under Armour All-American Game in Orlando, FL.
OT: Smoked Burgers
I frequently smoke burgers on my Gator Pit pellet smoker. I smoke burgers at 250 degrees, flip then after 30 minutes and pull them after an hour. They come out a perfect medium.
We are staying with friends at Canyon Lake and we threw on burgers on his Treager at 250 degrees. At 30 minutes they are nowhere nearly as cooked as they are on my Gator Pit.
I am looking for advice for any Treager people out there on burger smoking tips to salvage our dinner tonight.
Thanks in advance.
