Kansas State Scouting Report
Starting 5
#2 Tylor Perry (Sr)
Guard
5'11, 182lbs
15.2 PPG, 3.0 REB, 4.5 AST - 36 FG%, 33.2 3PT%, 91% FT
The North Texas transfer can fill it up, period. This is a guy that needs to be pressured all the way up the floor. Max Abmas is an above average on ball defender and can absolutely get the job done if he's locked in defensively, but man I would want Tyrese Hunter on this kid ALL. GAME. LONG. Perry is a guy that can shoot from anywhere on the floor; with a hand in his face, he's just an elite scorer. His percentages are down but when you shoot at the volume that he does that's bound to happen. Run him off the three point line, make him get into the paint and take contested jumpshots, force left.

#24 Arthur Kaluma (Jr)
Forward
6'7, 220lbs
14.8 PPG, 7.1 REB, 2.0 AST - 43 FG%, 35.3 3PT%, 75.2% FT
Arthur Kaluma feels like he's been around for forever, but it's mainly for how much basketball he's played at Creighton. The guy has just been consistent, and has played a bunch of minutes for teams that have made some substantial runs in the NCAA tournament, and is providing Kansas State with even more of an output offensively than he did at Creighton. He's a very long player that can really do everything but if you had to make him do one thing particularly it's shoot the ball from outside. Make him go left, BOX OUT. He's a player that's playing with a lot more freedom offensively, can act as a secondary ball handler etc and is playing with a ton of confidence. Take him out of his comfort zone early. He does not like being pressured when he has the ball, and wants to get down hill in a hurry.

#5 Camryn Carter (Jr)
Guard
6’3, 185lbs
14.9 PPG, 5 REB, 2.6 AST - 39.7 FG%, 30.7 3PT%, 84.1% FT
Cam Carter is probably my favorite player to watch for the Wildcats. He guards well; he plays extremely hard; he can get to the rim and finish with both hands at an elite level; he's very explosive; BUT......he's struggling shooting the ball. If you're Texas, you stick with the trend and make him take contested jumpshots from 15+ feet. Do not try and reinvent the wheel on how you guard this guy because he will punish you. My eyes tell me this is going to be the Chendall Weaver/Tyrese Hunter show in terms of a matchup, and Texas is fortunate to have some absolute DOGS on the defensive end of the floor.

#4 Dai Dai Ames(Fr)
Guard
6'1,185bs
4.6 PG, 1 REB, 1.8 AST - 32.6 FG%, 31.1 3PT%, 73% FT
It looks like Dai Dai Ames is starting to get more minutes but it's an interesting addition to the starting line up. He's a left that ALWAYS wants to get back to his left hand, is a serviceable shooter from outside, but MAN is he quick. If you're Texas this matchup is pretty straight up. Force him to his right hand, don't make a non-impact player make an impact, and contest every jumpshot. He's also been involved in a couple of scuffles including one where punches were thrown earlier this season. He's a guy who's emotions can get the best of him. Now I'm not saying talk shit, but I am saying that he's easily frustrated. Just play sound, fundamental defense.

#10 Jerell Colbert (RS Soph)
Forward/Center
6’10, 216lbs
2.7 PPG, 2.3 REB, 0.5 AST - 46.6 FG%, 0 3PT%, 55.3% FT
Not much to say on Colbert in that he's just big and athletic. Play him straight up, keep off the glass, don't let him make an impact. Make him turn back to his left shoulder.

Summary:
Kansas State is a team that has only won 5 out of their last 13(!) who's going to be limping into the conference tournament as a squad that's not playing their best basketball, going up against a Texas team that IS playing their best basketball. Texas is getting a healthier version of Dylan Disu, in a match up that favors Texas across the board. The Horns have more depth, they've been shooting better, and are playing a more cohesive game of basketball than they have at any point this season. I have Texas winning this game by double digits, 87-75.
Prediction Record: 4-0
