These match-ups are incredibly rare. Sometimes several decades pass before it happens. A few of the notable ones in history.

Since the AP poll there have been 22 total.

2011 - Alabama vs. LSU
Dubbed "Game of the century"

1977 - Notre Dame vs Texas
"Greatest comeback in Domer history"

1969 - Texas vs. Arkansas
Dubbed "Game of the century"

1969 - OSU vs. Michigan
Dubbed "The ten year war"

1943 - Notre Dame vs Michigan

2024's Texas team has a chance to be part of history. Put me squarely in the "Georgia keeps winning" until Austin category.
Think about the benefits:
  • This is why we are college football fans
  • So significant it will transcend sports and be discussed everywhere and anywhere
  • More celebrities than an LA Laker game or the superbowl
  • Matters for an entire season, becomes a benchmark for all other teams
  • Austin as epicenter of hype and history
  • No other regular season game would resonate more with recruits
  • Becomes part of history
