I exchanged a couple messages with Tucson Salpointe head coach Dennis Bene on 5-star running back Bijan Robinson, and I'm happy to report it sounds like good news for the Longhorns.
According to coach Bene, who is retiring after a long, successful career at Salpointe, Robinson is solid in his pledge to the Longhorns.
"Coach (Stan) Drayton has been so influential on the recruitment of Bijan. Bijan also has a very good relationship with coach (Tom) Herman. Bijan is solid to Texas," Bene said.
The Texas coaches will be out in Arizona this week (I believe on Wednesday or Thursday) but it looks like this one is all but wrapped up barring a sudden, unforeseen change. Schools like LSU, Ohio State and USC have stayed in touch with Robinson, but he's told OB that he'll sign in December and he told Blaire Angulo (West Coast analyst at 247) that he won't be taking any more visits. If things go according to plan, you can expect Robinson to sign with Texas during the early window, which begins on December 18.
The nation's No. 1-ranked running back prospect, Robinson is one of the Longhorns' most important recruits in the 2020 class. He recently wrapped up an incredible high school career that saw him rush for 2,235 yards and 38 touchdowns as a senior (17.7 yards per carry). Robinson rushed for more than 7,000 yards during his high school career.
