Texas sent out this press release a few moments after I posted the story:

"Texas senior LB Edwin Freeman had successful surgery on Wednesday to repair a triceps injury and will miss the remainder of spring practices. Additionally, senior DB P.J. Locke III sustained a stinger during Saturday’s practice, will continue to be treated and evaluated and is considered day to day."

I made a couple of calls about Saturday’s scrimmage, and had a few notes passed along to me.

- I was told safety P.J. Locke III sustained a stinger during the scrimmage. It was a scary scene for a few minutes, but I am told Locke is not expected to have any long-term damage. He will officially be listed as day-to-day.

- Overall, the scrimmage went very well. I was told the offense is getting better, which is an encouraging sign. It appears the offense had a much better day this Saturday than the previous week. Texas does not have a scrimmage scheduled for the upcoming weekend.

- The best news for Texas fans is I heard Shane Buechele and Sam Ehlinger looked great on Saturday. I was told each quarterback was impressive. From what I can tell, it was arguably their best outing this spring. Both quarterbacks move the ball efficiently during the scrimmage. Each one looked liked a leader. I heard they got rid of the ball quickly and avoided potential sacks.

- Running back Toneil Carter was impressive on Saturday, too. The person I spoke to said Carter has to be the starting running back this year. Carter wore a non-contact jersey during Thursday’s practice, but that was mainly to prevent another injury to the room. From what I was told, he stood out.

- It was another good performance by Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster. One of my sources said they would not be surprised if either player was named Big 12 Freshman of the Year. I was also told Anthony Cook has a chance, too.

- I was told Charles Omenihu had a couple of pressures during the scrimmage. Everyone inside the building wants him to develop a go-to move, but they were happy with how he played against the run.

- Receivers Collin Johnson and Lil’ Jordan Humphrey stood out, too. From what I was told, Humphrey is probably the best athlete on offense.

Adding a bit to Anwar's report, talked to a couple people who were there.

As Anwar said, it sounds like the offense had the better day of the two sides of the ball.

"The defense was lacking a bit. I'm not going to lie," one person said. That person did also note that Todd Orlando was doing some basic installation so he wasn't exactly throwing the kitchen sink at the offense.

I was told that Dele Adeoye had a really good day, including one hit on a running back that had everyone on the sideline fired up.

Lil'Jordan Humphrey was a player who was mentioned as standing out ... nothing new there, but he clearly impressed everyone who watched.

Of the freshmen QBs, I'm told Casey Thompson looked really good and made some plays with his legs.

"The parts I watched, he was looking pretty mobile, but the quarterbacks weren’t getting tackled. It's like the coaches said ... when they’re not getting tackled, they tend to be more mobile and run more."

B.J. Foster and Brennan Eagles were two others who were mentioned to me. In fact, one person told me Brennan Eagles got some run with the 1s. I need to double check on that because that would be a departure from what we'd seen in the open segments of practices, but it's interesting if true.
