While the injury situations of both B.J. Foster and Caden Sterns seem clearer after Tom Herman's Thursday press conference, three other Longhorns still seem to be in limbo for Saturday's game against Kansas State.
Freshman running back Jordan Whittington (sports hernia surgery), sophomore defensive back DeMarvion Overshown (neck and back) and Jeffrey McCullough (collarbone) are likely game-time decisions at this point.
All three players have participated in practice, but each will have to be evaluated between now and kickoff time against Kansas State
"Today was better than yesterday, which was better than Tuesday," Herman said. "So we'll see you how much we feel like they're capable of going on Saturday and how much we'll need them at that point."
If Whittington were to miss the game he would inch closer to a four-game window that could allow him to keep his redshirt eligibility as the Longhorns would only have three regular-season contests left on the schedule.
However, Herman hasn't put much stock in a redshirt option for Whittington, as the true freshman could draw NFL attention long before a potential five years of eligibility would be up.
He is currently the team's No. 3 running back behind Keaontay Ingram and Roschon Johnson according to the Texas depth chart.
Overshown is listed as the No. 2 free safety behind Caden Sterns. If healthy, he could also see time as the team's sixth "lighting" defensive back in certain situations down the stretch.
