Last night the Golf Channel did a live broadcast from Hazeltine covering The King's passing. The outpouring from current and former golfers was simply amazing. This went on until after midnight central time, with people calling into the show like Fred Couples, Brad Faxon, Rocco Mediate, Nancy Lopez, Anika Sorenstam, Jim Nantz, Dan Hicks, it just went on and on.
They all said the same thing. Incredible man, who made others feel special. Will we ever say that about another superstar? I don't think there will ever be another man like Palmer.
Couples couldn't even utter a word without breaking down his first call into the show, he had to call back to speak. Was pretty amazing.
The stories were great. John Feinstein said Curtis Strange used to complain to Palmer when he was #1 about having to be so accessible to everyone. "Why do I have to do all this stuff?" Palmer told him, "you don't, but then just go home, because you can't just take the money and give back nothing." I guess Curtis really didn't listen to him, because he's never been that well liked by the fans.
Just amazing guy and I think you'll see a similar outpouring of love when Jack passes, but hoepfully that won't be for a long time.
