Seems odd and it seems he has made a lot of poor decisions/hires. Seems like OC was a good hire - really surprised defense has struggled so much the past 3 years also given his background.

OC Gilbert is not a terrible hire. I'd still like to see more than a HS offense out there. To run this type offense you need very talented players. I know Buechele is a freshman, but competent DC's can figure out how to stop this offense fairly easily or at least slow it down to give their own offenses a chance to win the game.

Shane is not the prototypical Briles QB, he isn't a D1 dual threat QB. He is small at 6'0" 190 and this is after gaining weight. The offense also doesn't have the Briles TE/OT at 6'6" 270 or more. The offense has the WRs and RBs, because Baylor only uses the big backs in certain situations. The defense lacks front 7 personnel at DE and ILB and that was the case in the off-season, but UT don't sign good JUCOs like other teams (Bama and OU)

It depends why you have a revolving door with your assistants. If they get fired because they suck it is terrible, if they are getting HC jobs because they can coach it is great.

I think we all know what it says about him. The same thing his record says about him. Clearly it's Mack's fault.

Wish Charlie had been more proactive during the off season and hired a DC like Gene Chizek

Strong initially brought in a crew of coaches with whom he had trust and familiarity and some success at L'ville, in part (according to some) due to budgetary constraints imposed from above. He has been slow on the trigger to get rid of some under-performing coaches/coordinators, but has not hesitated to wield the knife (Watson, Bedford) midseason when necessary, even when he's had long professional or personal relationships.

We are seeing some success on the offensive side, and hopefully we can right the ship on defense and make a respectable run through the end of the season.
