it’s possible some or all of any coaches being let go will happen today (and/or after signing day 1 and bowl game)

Gathering free stuff from TOS:

-Herman is getting a new OC (Beck could be retained in another roll- best recruiter on staff)

-lots of names being thrown around with Chip labeling Graham Harrell as a possible leading candidate. What would’ve been the most obvious candidate Larry fedora is out though as he wants to hold out for a head-coaching job while sitting on a $3 million per year buyout from North Carolina.

-DC change seems much less likely but not ruled out. Only names I’ve read are Chris Ash who is currently sitting in an analyst role, Barry Odom, and a longshot candidate in Morgan Scally from Utah.

- of the position coaches Werheim and Merringer get the most speculation as on the chopping block.

Makes good sense. If Beck is retained as recruiter, I hope he isn’t allowed to coach QBs. I really wonder about the secondary. I guess we have cornerback coach and a safety coach. It seems to me that our secondary doesn’t know how to play aggressive. Part of the problem is inability to get a decent pass rush

Helton let go from USC. If Harrell is a serious OC candidate for Texas this could help.

Also, expect Bru back in time for spring practice:)

I don't see Helton's firing being reported. Where did you read that?

I think Orlando earned another year. He made some adjustments in the way he ran his scheme and even showed the ability to adjust is DL.

Like I said before, I think he’s a good coach that wasn’t doing a good job.
Coincidentally once we started getting guys back from injuries is about the time the defense started to play better too.

i think that’s a coincidence. Like I said before, you’ll have some drop off, but Texas was last in the Big 12 in just about every stat that matters defensively. That’s poor coaching period.

So does coaching. What’s your point? That our scholarship 4* back up are only good enough for last in the Big 12?
My point is that 8-4, 7-5 type season was foreseeable if you knew going in that Texas was going to suffer many injuries. Texas does not currently possess the kind of depth to overcome that.

After watching Baylor, I wouldn't mind trying to replace oscar Giles with the Baylor Dline coach.

Your point is hollow. At no point should Texas be dead last in the Big 12 through 7 games in just about every significant defensive category.

Should not happen...but it’s going to happen in the Big12 if you lose your DBs. But the DC just got fired, which may or may not help, so you should be happy.

Orlando out. Merringer out. Safety coach Navier takes over Defense for bowl game.

Im indifferent. Already posted I thought he should stay. I’m not pissed he was fired, but not really happy either.

Again, you’re saying the backups are no better than last in the Big 12. That’s a BS excuse. The kids weren’t getting coached up.

Did yall read the story about Merringer? I don't remember which site posted it but if true, then not only should he have been fired, he should have been fired immediately after OU. Basically went behind Herman's back on a lot of stuff and then bad mouthed Herman to Chris Ash (who happens to be a buddy of Herman) and it got back to him. Reports are that the entire WR group was looking to transfer if Merringer was retained until today.

So, if the Texas AD is the one allegedly putting his foot down and demanding wholesale changes as well as having his hand in the hiring......what is Herman doing besides collecting a paycheck and being mesmerized by Bongo Joe? Sounds to me like the AD is doing everything Herman was supposed to be doing? Am I wrong here?

Yes-wrong. A bunch of hypotheticals because nobody truly knows except CDC and TH. We don’t know whether the AD mandated anything or TH was just waiting for end of season to make changes. People at this level know the stakes. Strong made changes every year, but TH wanted continuity or a little stability, so he made a decision to try and play through it. By the results of how last year ended, it looked to have been working.

Where are you getting this theory?

Some stats they keep nowadays are silly. But did you see this Todd Orlando stat during the TT game? That no P5 defense gave up more 4thq points than TX. Unforgivable especially at the University of Texas.

Baylor scored 3x in the 2nd half against us. And all 3x the d got called for penalties. In fact they got called twice on each drive. Unforgivable.

Spare me but were freshman excuse. I noticed this year that a lot of 4* freshman played well this year. Then why do ours always need more time? I mean those freshman on the defense were running around like the 3 Stooges.

Now I understand why we were 115th in penalties.

And now I understand why Todd Orlando has been let go.

But there is something else I want to say. The old saying be careful what you wish for you just might get it. This is really true when it comes to coaching. It would take to long when it comes to the University of Texas. So Orlando and others have been let go I respect that changes had to be made. But what if the new coaches aren't any better or even worse? That alone will make me want to cross my fingers for are least a few years.

Appears to be the common thoughts throughout the interwebs. Make major changes or be gone. The bigger question is how do Horn fans feel about Herman having to get rid of his guys and make all new hires? Are you glad Herman is staying? Is he changing offensive systems too? Sounds kind of like the Charlie Strong scenario from a couple years back.
