So total explosion up north, he has been fired haha
One good thing to come from the ass whooping we took Saturday. Hopefully we get RRR II on December 1.
Who are they going to get mid season? Who, on their staff, is better?
They have become so spoiled up there. That is what entitlement looks like. Who are they going to get?
Who on staff could be worse? Probably use Ruffin or Diaco as interim and hopefully make solid hire for next year.
Guessing they’ll promote Ruffin McNeil.
How many more schollys we got to offer those jumping ship??
Nueces, we’ve put up with his pathetic ass for several years. He blew the Georgia game as well as others. We’ve managed to win some video game type games against not so great teams. I don’t think entitled is very accurate. We still have the same players that haven’t tackled anyone yet.
EWN would you want them?
I don’t know about that. I think it’s what a program that refuses to accept mediocrity looks like. Not saying it will work out for them, but OU has never been a program to tolerate anything other than excellence for very long, whether that means recourse to solutions within the rules or not.
I meant high school recruits
Oh, no good for blou.... they have TCU this week. I would love to see this season unravel on them. Riley would have to earn his way. Blood is in the water.
I mentioned a long time ago in a thread when Riley became head coach that I thought OUs defense would suffer because of the style of play that Riley wants to run. It will get a little worse each year. When your focus is on offense and the practices are run to get a bunch of plays the defense suffers. I don’t think a new DC will help much unless Riley changes some things on his end as well.
There may well be something to that (I hope so). They were thrilled when Venables was run out of town too, and he’s done nothing but excel at Clemson.
DH you make good points. Lincoln May re-evaluate his offense? But even it we get worse this season a change had to be made.
If true this is the best news I’ve heard in a good while. Really, I don’t care who the DC is to finish out the year. At least the fill in DC will have somewhat of an excuse if his D isn’t very good. Stoops has no excuse for that performance yesterday. Not saying Texas didn’t play a good game but our D was pathetic.
When Texas scores 48 points with their offense, you have no choice. They scored 10 offensive points on
K-State and then Tulsa before that was 28 I think. OU was the worst of your opponents on defense. Start looking for a new DC for 2019. This year be rough but I like it.
A little advice for you Sooners. I don't know where he is now, but don't even think about Greg Robinson. That dude was horrible, and could never come in mid season and improve a defense. Would only make things worse. Trust me.
Spoiled by winning maybe, but not spoiled by good defense. Or even average defense.
I don't know enough about football defense to offer an intelligent opinion on what was the exact problem.
But seeing you guys light us up like a Christmas tree yesterday, when you struggled to move the ball on K-state a week ago, was the last straw for me.
Something was terribly, terribly wrong on that side of the ball for OU.
I agree, he had to make a change.
Well there goes the unemployment numbers for this week....
Has been since 2005. Your program sold its soul to score points and win shootouts. You’ve slowly turned into Tech over the last decade. I don’t think that’ll change as long as LR is your coach.
I will say this, if Riley can get himself a defense, watch out, Imo
Does that make two Stoopsies that got fired because of Lincoln Riley ( I know bob technically resigned, but, I think LR was getting offers)? ou just threw out the wife and kids to keep the hot young girlfriend. JMHO
Who cares, Riley is top 2 or 3 OC in CFB Imo and would run a lot of top coaches off, regardless of last name.
If we get a good DC and can recruit better our offense will be fine. It’s not like we have a bunch of 3 and punt. We have 3 and TD. Don’t have to pitch shutouts, just get some friggin stops.
Sam played his best game Saturday. He was able to throw the deep ball & Keaontay was healthy too.
The OU offense had 3 turnovers too.
That's the point @HornDrummer was making above. Riley is Kliff Kingsbury 2.0. Don't see much defense in your future. Might as well start throwing tortillas.
4mn tell me this, did KSU blitz and pressure Sam a lot? I said this yesterday and I'll say it again. I've seen Sam play 2 games where I thought he played good the whole game, both of those have been in Dallas. Yesterday Stoops brought a delayed blitz one time that I can recall that resulted in a sack. I do not recall him calling another blitz the entire game. Instead we kept lining up in our "4-2" which is actually a 3 down lineman with an undersized jack linebacker as a DE that gets run the hell over more times than not.
Dude, you guys blitzed a lot, we just kept picking them up and getting them blocked. Don't forget our starting center, and best offensive lineman, was finally healthy and played his first full game. That could be a big reason we looked better than other games.
Everyone knew that Oklahoma’s best chance to win after tying game was to let Texas score immediately and then try to score and go for 2. When there is absolutely no chance of stopping the other team that’s on the defense not the offense.
yes and thank you. yesterday was the last of many straws. texas fans definitely understand needing a coaching change.
you guys have been the more physical team most of the time the last several years, probably more so yesterday. maybe we can give you a better game not just on the scoreboard but in the trenches. you kicked our ass. again
We should immediately bring Stoops on our staff as a defensive "consultant". Having his knowledge of the OU game planning and player tendencies would be a valuable asset to our staff if we get a rematch with the gooners on Dec 1. Stoops would probably love nothing more than to end their season and perhaps restore his credibility and chances of getting a job somewhere next season.
Have you seen their defense? I wouldn't trust that dude to know "Quarterback" is not a reference to a 25 cent refund.
I don't know what to think about this. The last few years OK's defense has had some horrible games a couple of years ago they had a 66/59 score against TT and there have been others. But never against TX until yesterday. Maybe that's what's saved his job and yesterday's game was the final straw.
There's no telling what will happen to OK's season the rest of the way. This could unite the OK team or it could destroy their season. Maybe Lincoln Riley feels secure enough to bring in his own people now. OK's season has gotten a whole lot more interesting than it already was.
I disliked Mike Stoops more than Bob. He taunted the TX team constantly on his first stint as their dc. Yesterday's game was the first time when we finally settled a score with him. Yes we all know the game was close but we embarrassed him and I enjoyed it.
Remember how he used to stand on the sidelines always mouthing off? 4 years ago against Baylor be completely lost it. He had a meltdown and this time the player yelled back at him. The following year big brother Bob put him in the press box. I don't have the ability to post a link but it was in 2014 and in the second half.
I hope so..supposedly he is worse than stoops. The sports animal guys had rumors on him Saturday that were not good but refused to speak on air.
OU, unlike the the couch burners, has played good, and even great, defense in years past. The program has shown it's capable.
Surely LR understands that offense just puts @sses in the seats.
It's defense that wins championships.
If he doesn't, then perhaps what you say is correct sir. I wish you wouldn't say that out loud however. Very, very disconcerting.
My Horn friends, I want to thank you for your team finally allowing us to get rid of our DC. If we can get any sort of improvement on the defensive side of the ball, we can win out our schedule. In the off-season, I fully expect Riley to make a good DC hire. With Riley’s offense and a halfway consistently defense I like OU’s chances in most games imo.
Not to rain on your parade but Saban has a meltdown every game and completely loses it. It ok though because he’s getting results right? You guys getting upset at coaches for yelling and getting on players need to get a grip or go join the me too movement. You don’t like Stoops, cool, me neither but bringing up he yells at kids is lame.
