Bobby Petrino joins David Beaty in the unemployment line (with $14.1 million in guaranteed money) after Louisville falls to 2-8 overall and 0-7 in conference play with its fourth 30-plus-point blowout loss of the season.

Any other P5 coach I'm forgetting or haven't heard about?

I wonder who will pick up Petrino. Will he get a HC job or will he be an OC. I think this is interesting because he could really make things happen for a team that has a defense specialist as a HC and has had scoring problems. Will Muschamp or Tennessee Vols comes to mind, but, both hired a new guys recently, but I don't really know. I just think it is interesting and may be a great opportunity.

Brohm at Purdue is Louisville's #1 target. He played football there and is from there. I guess Louisville is a step up? Probably better pay... but he's got Purdue rolling. If I'm him I may stay at Purdue until a bigger fish comes calling. But it's probably going to be hard to turn down your alma mater.

Which dumpster fire would you rather have? Kansas or Louisville?
Both are basketball schools currently involved with the basketball scandal.
Louisville has been better recently but they haven't been good without a 1st round draft pick playing QB.

Mike McIntyre of CO got the pink slip lost night. He improved the facilities there and he won a divisional title a couple of years ago. CO has always seemed like a good job. Beautiful college town and a good school from what I've been told. They have some tradition and they have a great mascot. My sister in law's grandson played there and he loved it. It's not impossible for them to get a quality hc if they do it right.

That would be rough. He won the Rose Bowl and a PAC 12 title last year...starting a true freshman QB this year and his next best player is also a fresh.

I'm not sure Gelton is the guy for that job but still.

I can't for the life of me understand how Clay Helton's job has turned into a dumpster fire. This is the standard at SC:

Win the Pac XII ✔
Win the Rose Bowl ✔
beat
ND ✔
UCLA ✔
ST ✔

Clay Helton has met the standard. But after Saturday's loss to UCLA when asked about his job status he replied "ask the ad". And that says it all he'll be gone after the ND game.

The question at SC is this. Their new ad, Lynn Swann, has signed CH into 2023. But it should not be hard for SC to sign an elite coach. But like TX the Trojans have struck out on some hires. Needless to say they won't be hiring some coordinator. This will be the most watched hire in the off season.

Question is, who does SC target? I think that Urban Meyer is gone from OSU after this season "for health reasons". I wonder if SC tries to entice him to take the job?

USC rivals Texas for incompetence in the administration of its football program over the decades.

That should be as much of a dominate-on-autopilot job as there is, but they've had a lot of mediocre seasons since the early 1980s.

It's be surprised if UM comes back next season. I'll bet there was a behind the scenes agreement that he will step down after this season. Now if hw does indeed step down then this will make for one Hell of an off season for new coach hires. I mean 2 blue bloods looking for new coaches in the same off season? This will be fun to watch.

Herman will be top 3 wishlist of tOSU and usc, if not #1.

Question being, are tosu and usc better than texas?

Bad move IMO. He brought Colorado back into consciousness. If they mess this next hire up, I guess see ya in another 10 years CU

Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t he kinda overlook/not report an assistant on his staff for domestic violence, ala urban Meyer?

will Kingsbury remain at Texas Tech?I have my doubts,I look for Seth Littrell of North Texas to maybe replace him and was a former running back coach at Tech.
Good point. If I were TT, I would keep KK. Littrel is blank forsaken okie that went to ou. Maybe ou gets him after Riley goes to the pros.

I think this is UM's last year. If I'm actually right for once they will hire someone with some kind of Ohio connection. If you're ISU you pray that they don't want to talk to Matt Campbell.

You know some of the nicest settings in college fb are in the Pac XII. WA, CO, UT, CA, UCLA, their stadiums are in beautiful surroundings. The Pac XII is the most big city conference of the P5 conferences. Tucson, Phoenix, LA, the bay area, Seattle, Salt Lake City. Boulder, and Eugene, are said to be hip college towns less than an hour from the big city. With the exception of WS they're all off the interstate. They have a blue blood in fb, and mens hoops. In fb Chris Petersen, and David Shaw are imho among the top 6 coaches in the country. So why does Pac XII fb suck so bad? It's not like the schools aren't making an effort to upgrade their facilities they are. I said above that the SC and CO openings are attractive jobs. I just don't get it.

1. Pacific time zone. The East coast ESPN writers don't cover as much. There simply is not the buzz that the crappy ACC teams get, etc... The west coast needs a bridge to the rest of the country and that is the central time zone in Texas.

2. The cost of living on the west coast is high. Little disposable income for football games compared to the rest of the country. You have to be a winner for people to show.

3. The Pac 12 is down right now. It's just a matter of time till it comes back. I did a thread on the combination of the 4 Texas teams to the Pac awhile ago. Everyone hated on my idea, but oh well. I think it would work but who can predict the future.

No and hell no. Really think Ohio State would go after Herman after all this Smith fallout?

Herman isn’t going anywhere.
I want Herman to stay, but him taking tOSU job would be the ultimate F you to Smith. With his granddad being Mr. tOSU and for him to have to sign off on a Herman hiring....that would be gold! But all that to stay, I don't think Herman leaves UT anytime soon.

I did not say that he would leave. He will be on every dumb asses list from up north and on the east coast to be THE replacement when they have no understanding of Texas football.

so, we're thinking

Louisville
possibly Purdue, though that would fill Louisville probably
USC
Colorado
possibly Ohio State
Lincoln Riley hot target of NFL types (those rumors don't usually get out by accident) so possibly Oklahoma

i think Tech beats Baylor anyway, but Tech has looked like an adult is in charge for the first time since KK has been there-- much improved despite the record; much like us last year

if we hang onto Orlando, i'm happy

Something about SC that's a mystery to me. From 1976 to '82 they had incredible teams. Then there was the Pete Carroll era. But both times they were cheating big time and it's set their program back. Why does SC do things that they dont have to? SC is a blue blood and they're in L.A.. If somebody has a reasonable explanation I'd like to hear it.

I'm with you on this. They have every advantage that is possible to have. I don't know about the status of their facilities but I assume they are good or in the process of getting renovated. I get why a school such as directional school in the middle of nowhere cheats, to be competitive they have to, but USC? Plus USC has the songbirds! Recruiting advantage!
