This has been discussed before, but it’s still a huge unregulated problem which needs to be addressed, it’s going on with most social media companies, including Facebook, and it’s definitely part of the reason for our polarization
Most people know some of this, but how precise and exact these tech companies are getting with super computers in controlling our thoughts and actions for their goal of maximizing clicks is scary, even for the engineers who created the companies/platforms
There are several documentaries on the topic and speaking w many tech engineers, everyone in the industry knows the truth about their business model which wants you programmed into coming back for your fix simply to sell ads and make $$$
Another huge concern for me is the kids aspect, and how much control they have on everyone especially kids
All Facebook cares about is you clicking on ads and staying in their site, and they do have the strongest algorithms ever created to make sure you do click and stay on their site
The news feed is 100% tailored towards keeping you clicking and staying on their site, and everyone’s news feed is different, specifically tailored towards your likes and triggers displayed by your clicks, and no 2 are the same
Most of the news is BS, because it’s more interesting if untrue (6 times more likely to be shared) and keeps you posting, simple psychology, and you are reinforced by similar people posts, they know 100% what they are doing and simply want to find out what you click on to keep you on their site, if you click on fake news stories they will feed you all you want to keep you on their site, and will reinforce these views in your brain by having similar people/friends reinforce these views with you
Slowly you do get programmed by Facebook, they have some of the strongest algorithms ever created which only get more precise in controlling your views and news, exactly like a drug , all they care about is your time and clicks , that equals $$$, and that is exactly their business plan
They monitor everything and are simply looking for clicks, likes, and interaction. Once on the site for a while they know how to keep your there, honesty and real news be damned, and they have known forever that many people politically are motivated by conspiracy theories, Facebook is happy to deliver those on your news feed to keep you coming back for your psychological fix and reinforcing those views with others, Facebook could care less about the information, as all they want is to keep you coming back so they call sell ads and make $$$$, whatever it takes
The tech industry needs to be held responsible for this dishonesty, which was an unintended consequence of them simply maximizing clicks, but they make so much $$$ they are not going to change anytime soon without legislation
