As has been the case since WWII, Europe is under the US' thumb. Right now, they are shaking in fear over the possibility of the US withdrawing troops from Western Europe. All while insisting that they be allowed to tax imports from the US, but we can't tax imports from Western Europe. They spend no money on defense, and have outsized budgets on social programs. They then chastise our social programs (healthcare, poor, etc) while relying entirely on our ground troops to deter Russia, and our Navy to secure their global trade (while taxing imports from the US). Our left then makes terse commentary like "why can't we have Norway's healthcare system".
It's time for the free lunch to end. I really don't care if Russia takes back the Eastern bloc and scares the Scandanavians, even battles them. Why should I if protecting them comes with an outsized expense to Americans? I'd rather have better healthcare here than spend tens of billions defending supposed allies of a bygone cold war era whose usefulness ended when the Berlin Wall came down.
