Fire this idiot !!!!

I'm truly at a loss for words.

I've only witnessed such inept play calling two other times in my life--
The 2008 Detroit Lions that went 0-16 and under the Charlie Strong tenure.

A fake punt on fourth and 6 when you're WINNING? The lack of cognitive dissonance in that situation goes far beyond my ability to grasp.

Not taking a certain three points when you know everyone under the sun knows who is going to attempt the fourth down carry and seeing your offensive line being whipped in the run block department all year-- and you still go for it?

Trying to run out a clock by rushing on first down for 5 yards only to throw the next two downs and run a scant few seconds off a clock?

And then to have it fall on the shoulders of arguably the most consistent player we've had on the roster the last few years only to see him barely miss because of your inept and scattered play calling---- just leaves me aghast. Any confidence that kid has spent the last three years gaining was dashed with that last kick. He probably feels like if Herman loses his job, it will be his fault. Try carrying that around with you for a lifetime.

Tom, seek relevance elsewhere. You'll never find it here. Be gone.

Just saw Tom Herman on the news say “from where the program was before, to where it is today, I think the future is very bright.” I cannot argue with that. However, today was the first of “Horns” of that I have watched all year. I guess it’s COVID plus there is a lot going in my life right now.

If were being completely fair, with all it's amazing resources, your program should be performing much better than it is. Way better. It's shocking.

But Herman is not the only common denominator for the last several versions of the burnt orange.

I have a lot of respect for SE. Much respect. Tough as hell, a leader and a true warrior, who's mobile, with a good arm.

Not the purest of QBs though, correct? And he is, once again, not in the Heisman conversation.

Hypothetically, let's say Jalen Hurts had been your QB for the last three years. Do you think your record would be significantly different?

Is it possible that your QB play is as much, or even more, to blame for your underwhelming record in 2018 - 2020?

Good morning gents. I guess being laughed at in the public eye is the new norm around the 40. Thank Tommy.

Agree with everything, but that missed fg was on Sam. 100% on Sam, way too much experience to take that sack.

Here you go @outhereincali --

I'm with Cali on this one. From an individual match up stand point, we should win this game by double digits. The problem is, it takes a smarter than average coach to create mismatches that give his team the advantage. And right now, I think the smartest coach on the field is not on our sideline.

Did Sam call that pass play? I get that he took the sack, but we were right there within Dicker's range. Call a run play. Pick up three or four more yards. Don't be greedy and try and throw for fifteen for the chip shot. He's on scholarship too. He can make a 47 yard Fg. He does it all the time. But a 57 yard FG?

Any play called and executed well is fine...any action Sam takes is ok, release to run, throw it away, whatever. Sam got fixated and greedy and the team lost.

So we are against the forward pass now? He completes a 10 yarder and everyone is posting what a great gutsy call it was.

Execution and situational discipline...

Herman will be back next year. What coach is Texas bringing in? We are the laughing stock of college football and will be for some time to come.

Everything I am hearing is that his buyout money is already in hand and he will be shown the door soon. UT will be making a splash hire similar to A&M hiring of Jimbo Fisher.

Decision to go for it on fourth down in fourth quarter
“It was a tough one. The analytics said to go for it. You go up there by two scores if you get it. You kick the field goal…you’re up by a touchdown. I felt confident in the play that was called and we didn’t get it.”

Analytics are what coaches blame things on when they don't go their way because most people are math stupid and don't get it. Well I get math, and I know football. The metric by which their analytics are based are completely wrong, or Tom is lying. You decide.

Thoughts on playcalling on second to last drive in fourth quarter
“We knew a couple of first downs wins us the game. We knew that after the first run that the box was going to be significantly loaded and we didn’t get the first down.”

So you ran it on first down and got 5 yards. But because you didn't get the first down ON first down, you decide to THROW IT two more times and burn hardly any clock? Let me guess, the analytics said you should throw it. So what if they had eight in the box. The box count doesn't block-- your offensive line does. You don't trust your OLine coach enough to put a body on the 8 guys and get 5 more yards in two chances? Sad.

Thoughts on play that ended in Ehlinger sack on last drive
“Four verticals and the back on the checkdown and was hoping to get the back on the checkdown to add some yardage before the field goal.”

So let me get this straight--- on 3rd down and while in FG range, the analytics told you to run four deep vertical routes and a bail out route into the flats to your RB? Are you taking fvcking crazy pills dude? No crossing route? No wheel route? No quick slant or curl for a bailout route? You're relying on your QB to look back to his left over his shoulder for a RB in the event that your four deep vertical routes are covered up. That's a fvcking brilliant play call. How about we call a play that is a little less risky Tom. Wait, you didn't call the play, the "analytics" did. My bad.

See my post above. There were no 10 yard routes run bro.

Most responses have to do with this year and the job he has done. This year is a bust, regardless if the team wins out. Three losses given the talent and schedule for this year is a pure failure. What’s more concerning for me are the recruiting disasters. Legacies not coming back, life long UT followers not coming. UT is now having to compete with TT, ISU for recruits. Ohio State, Bama et al are getting the impact players, so that leaves us with equal talent with second tier programs. UT will have to out coach them to win. That’s not going to happen. UT had better get off their ass and get a coach to right this ship or it’s going to hit them where it hurts. The pocketbook.

You and me both. And now my stepson's wife has covid19. And so does her daughter. And now my son has it. But my son and granddaughter and son are going to be fine. They're practicing the necessary quarantine. And this was only the 2nd full game I watched this year OSU being the other one. I saw the first half of OK and WV but that doesn't cause I had to youtube the full game when I got home.

Our boys played good enough to win but our coaches started coaching not to lose instead of coaching to win. Today we showed how much talent we have on both sides of the ball but the coaches screwed up. I am not going to get into a who should be the next coach I have to trust the powers that be.
