Fire this idiot !!!!

Decision to go for it on fourth down in fourth quarter
“It was a tough one. The analytics said to go for it. You go up there by two scores if you get it. You kick the field goal…you’re up by a touchdown. I felt confident in the play that was called and we didn’t get it.”

Analytics are what coaches blame things on when they don't go their way because most people are math stupid and don't get it. Well I get math, and I know football. The metric by which their analytics are based are completely wrong, or Tom is lying. You decide.

Thoughts on playcalling on second to last drive in fourth quarter
“We knew a couple of first downs wins us the game. We knew that after the first run that the box was going to be significantly loaded and we didn’t get the first down.”

So you ran it on first down and got 5 yards. But because you didn't get the first down ON first down, you decide to THROW IT two more times and burn hardly any clock? Let me guess, the analytics said you should throw it. So what if they had eight in the box. The box count doesn't block-- your offensive line does. You don't trust your OLine coach enough to put a body on the 8 guys and get 5 more yards in two chances? Sad.

Thoughts on play that ended in Ehlinger sack on last drive
“Four verticals and the back on the checkdown and was hoping to get the back on the checkdown to add some yardage before the field goal.”

So let me get this straight--- on 3rd down and while in FG range, the analytics told you to run four deep vertical routes and a bail out route into the flats to your RB? Are you taking fvcking crazy pills dude? No crossing route? No wheel route? No quick slant or curl for a bailout route? You're relying on your QB to look back to his left over his shoulder for a RB in the event that your four deep vertical routes are covered up. That's a fvcking brilliant play call. How about we call a play that is a little less risky Tom. Wait, you didn't call the play, the "analytics" did. My bad.

Any play called and executed well is fine...any action Sam takes is ok, release to run, throw it away, whatever. Sam got fixated and greedy and the team lost.

So we are against the forward pass now? He completes a 10 yarder and everyone is posting what a great gutsy call it was.

Execution and situational discipline...
See my post above. There were no 10 yard routes run bro.

Most responses have to do with this year and the job he has done. This year is a bust, regardless if the team wins out. Three losses given the talent and schedule for this year is a pure failure. What’s more concerning for me are the recruiting disasters. Legacies not coming back, life long UT followers not coming. UT is now having to compete with TT, ISU for recruits. Ohio State, Bama et al are getting the impact players, so that leaves us with equal talent with second tier programs. UT will have to out coach them to win. That’s not going to happen. UT had better get off their ass and get a coach to right this ship or it’s going to hit them where it hurts. The pocketbook.

Just saw Tom Herman on the news say “from where the program was before, to where it is today, I think the future is very bright.” I cannot argue with that. However, today was the first of “Horns” of that I have watched all year. I guess it’s COVID plus there is a lot going in my life right now.

You and me both. And now my stepson's wife has covid19. And so does her daughter. And now my son has it. But my son and granddaughter and son are going to be fine. They're practicing the necessary quarantine. And this was only the 2nd full game I watched this year OSU being the other one. I saw the first half of OK and WV but that doesn't cause I had to youtube the full game when I got home.

Our boys played good enough to win but our coaches started coaching not to lose instead of coaching to win. Today we showed how much talent we have on both sides of the ball but the coaches screwed up. I am not going to get into a who should be the next coach I have to trust the powers that be.

Herman has a problem. He does not assess risk well. Tom Herman is the guy who drives the city bus all week and then goes to the Casino and blows his whole paycheck because his system says to do it. These kinds of people are prototypical losers because it's all or nothing for them. They cannot moderate risk. They chase the pot of gold. In the dictionary, next to sucker, is a picture of Hermie.

Execution? How about Okafor getting his a$$ walked back into Ehlinger's lap or Kerstetter not even chipping on the guy?

If you are going to call a play where you want to run everyone off and the only underneath route is a delayed release by our back, you have to hold your block long enough for the back to get into the pattern.

Like Clob pointed out, I am not sure why we didn't run something with a quick hit option, something with routes at multiple layers, or something that moved the pocket.

You attempt to lay all of that at Ehlinger's feet is laughable.

He admitted in his presser he could have gotten rid of the ball. Can't. Take. That. Sack. Period.

Cost the Horns the game.

It didn't. Dicker hooked the kick. It would have missed from 47. The fake punt with a LEAD and the fourth down gamble cost us the game.

Actually, when Herman began to turtle with a 7 point lead, in the first quarter, is what cost us the game. The dude is a mess.

No argument with anything you posted, cept I think he makes the 47 yarder. Fake punt was imbicillic.

Do we know if the ball is rolling already to find the next head coach? If yes, who are the top 3 choices? Urban Meyer isn't coming so we can move on from him. No way he gives up his laid back job making 10 million to take over a mess. If he is considering the job who has proof that he wants the job or to coach again. If memory serves me right he still has a medical issue and doctors told him to get out of the stress before it makes him worse. Does anyone on this board have any insight they could share that a change is coming or do we have to deal with Tom Herman for one more year?

I’d say if Urban didn’t want the job he’d say so. Till he actually does I’d say there is at least a chance.
I am skeptical of him coming here as well but i think it’s possible. If he doesn’t though my top 3 in no particular order

Matt Campbell
Hugh Freeze
Gus Malzahn

all 3 guys have been. hC’s for awhile and all 3 would win big at Texas.

I’ll throw out a name that certainly wouldn’t be an “A” name but Steve Sarkisian HC and Washington and USC. Wealth of experience as a coordinator in the NFL and in college. Lost the USC job due to his issues with alcohol but appears to have those issues under control. Worth some consideration if you can’t get one of the “A” guys

1st Choice - Jimbo Fisher. Just because you can.

2nd Choice - Art Briles. Because you are desperate and know he would win big.

CDC has a requirement for any coaching hire. The coach must have built 2 programs to championship caliber. That pretty much rules out all three on this list.

If we can't get UM or a competent NFL coach, then take away mensas headset and make him watch the game like the rest of us.... he can't screw it up. Tell him to recruit and follow orders.

I’m sorry but that coach doesn’t exist if it’s not Urban Meyer. I get that we all want urban Meyer and I get why, but those of you who aren’t open minded to anyone else are being ridiculous. We don’t even know if Urban wants the job and should at least prepare for the possibility that he doesn’t.

Floreal boldly left a respected Stanford program so he could accept the challenge of making Kentucky track and field relevant. He did.

“What he did at Stanford was second to none,” Del Conte said of Floreal. “Then he takes a program that’s never, ever, ever had a track history, goes to the University of Kentucky. Sight unseen, by the way. And said, ‘I’ll take that job, I’ll take that challenge.’

“And to take Kentucky track and field to a place of prominence on a national landscape, can you just imagine what he could do at the University of Texas wearing that burnt orange and white?”

White, Del Conte’s newest hire, led an Oregon program that had never reached a Super Regional to nine straight appearances in that round.

CDC did this in other sports but football coaches are a picked-over bunch. It's much harder to find hidden gems and football has a much smaller margin of error. There is no one at the college level other than UM that I want. We could go NFL but that's a hard get. We are in a bad position at this point.

I’ll just point this out... As Texas hired Tom Herman the “no brainer”. LSU and Baylor hired coach O and Matt Rhule. 4 years later coach O has a national title, Matt Rhule became an NFL coach, and Tom Herman is headed for the unemployment line. So if we’ve learned anything over the last 4 years it should be to keep an open mind and not get fixated on a name

Im not arguing that CDC’s hires haven’t been proven winners so far. In fact I’ve argued that we should trust him with this because of that. The fact is though football is a little different. Coaches that have played for or won national titles don’t leave schools. If you can’t get Unran Meyer(and we may not be able to)then there isn’t a national title winner or a multiple program winner out there you could realistically get.
Doesn’t mean there aren’t good coaches though.

The Texas job is different. The BMD's want access. It's hard to just coach. It's a different political animal. It's a problem.

None of us know shit except Tom Herman is decidedly mediocre

Then maybe we should start doing some self reflection and change. The amount of people who have left Texas and have had success but we’re mediocre to bad here should alarm some folks. Maybe instead of saying “we’re Texas”... maybe the problem has become “we’re Texas

Ball has already rolled. Until Urban flat out says he doesn't want the job--- which he has not, either publicly or privately (from what I've been told). He's not using Texas to leverage against Fox because Fox doesn't play that sh!t. He's not using Texas to leverage against USC because USC can't pay him anywhere near what Texas can. Same thing with South Carolina. They don't have the resources to leverage vs Texas.
Any school out there with the resources already has a coach they believe in ........ So there's no bidding war over Urban.

This comes down to two things-- CDC letting go of Tom and Urban agreeing to take the job. CDC wants Urban committed before firing Tom and Urban wants Tom gone before committing.

We are probably at loggerheads.

Don’t disagree conceptually. In practice, taking a group of 10-20 BMDs to all agree to provide a new coach space to do his job? Impossible ... that group isn’t accustomed to self reflection and having anyone tell them what to do. Only an UM-type with skins on the wall and balls bigger than your head will have the instant credibility to keep that group at arms length. Until it’s confirmed we can’t get UM it’s fun (but utterly useless) to come up with a list of Matt Campbell comparables. That list doesn’t have the big cajones - at least in the eyes of the BMDs. As has been stated by others, dealing with that group is as important at UT as Xs and Os.

And I think some of you make more of dealing about the BMD’s than they really is. Tom Herman and Charlie Strong didn’t fail here because the BMD’s didn’t like them. In fact in Herman’s case they Rolled out the red carpet for him. They didn’t succeed here because they didn’t win games. Dealing with the BMD’s is part of the job yes but winning games takes care of a lot of the work for you. If Herman was winning games they wouldn’t be in this situation

and I can tell you right now if any of the BMD’s think Urban Meyer is going to come in and glad hand them and yuck it up they are in for a rude awakening. This is how every conversation is going to go with Urban Meyer. “This is the way I want it and if I don’t get it that way I’m gone”. That’s it. Urban Meyer will own Texas football. Not saying that’s good or bad. Just saying that’s the way it will be

I'm not concerned about BMD's. I think they would have no problem giving UM full control of the program. It's the school administration and meddling professors plus Austin socially liberal elites that want to dictate their social justice garbage onto our football program. Just get the fvck out of the way and let UM run the whole show. The players answer to nobody but him and if they aren't committed to being all in with his vision from day one he should be allowed to cut them loose and look for another school. This program is a disaster and it will take a few years to get it turned into a culture of consistent excellence and leadership where players are accountable to each other. Our team has zero leadership and player accountability right now. We have too many guys trying to brand themselves as being down for social justice while being absolutely tone deaf to the fact that not everyone on the team believes in that nonsense and many are turned off by it. It's best to just keep that to yourself. It's like having a bunch of people who are constantly preaching their religious beliefs toward their teammates and fellow students. It's a big turn off if you over do it and you alienate those who don't necessarily agree with your constant preaching.
