While the dueling memos and former POW John McCain's loyalty to the United States are both attention-grabbers, other important stuff is happening
Interesting refusal to act today by the Supreme Court. Justice Samuel Alito denies request of Pennsylvania Republicans who had asked Supreme Court to stay state supreme court ruling in partisan-gerrymandering case. This is the correct decision since the Penn State Supreme Court relied on the Pennsylvania Constitution for its ruling (not the U.S. Constitution), but one cannot assume anything at the Supreme Court these days
This was a map that gives the GOP 13 seats in the House, compared to just five Democrats. The GOP drew the state’s current map in 2011. The state has gone to Democratic presidential candidates in most recent elections, but narrowly went to President Trump in 2016 (48.8% - 47.6%).
This means that for a state that is pretty close to 50/50, the GOP holds 73% of the House seats. That seems like a problem in a Democracy.
The Supreme Court case is still pending. Summary of the oral argument is below. It could go either way, but it sure looks like it will be a 5-4 decision.
