Tom Herman announced [that] the Longhorns will hold several satellite camps in different states in June and July. They will start the summer with an on-campus camp on May 28 followed by three more in Austin before hitting the road. Herman and Texas will make stops in Atlanta, Las Vegas, the Florida coast area and Southern Louisiana, he said.

"The rule has changed to give you 10, throughout June and July," Herman said. "We’re not going to have 10 on our campus, that just waters it down. But we’re not going to waste it either."

Herman's opinion is if they're available you might as well use them. The staff, Herman said, will focus on building a team with the best available players in Texas, but he's not afraid to go out of state either when the need arises.

"It's just a way for us to get our brand out there," Herman said.

The last quote is important, perhaps, to HS coaches in Texas?

Over the years, it's seemed like HS coaches in Texas haven't taken kindly to the flagship recruiting out of state. That was a plus in Mack's favor, to concentrate on Texas.

Texas needs to recruit neighboring states, for sure. UT has had some good talent from LA.

He hasn't even won 1 game at UT yet, he better be concerned with what he has now and win, then go do his Sat stuff, strange things happen to coaches at UT that don't win games..LOL!

Hook'em

Before Mack coached a game at Texas he went to coaching school and told all the high school coaches that Texas would win a national championship with Texas High School Players. It can be done. The thing he cant do is piss of the high school coaches and then try and bring in a bunch of kids from California which will further piss off the high school coaches a la Mackovic.

This is regularly overblown. Herman is doing a great job as to making hs coaches feel welcomed and involved with the UT football program.

With the new NCAA rules, will Herman be able to have these camps?

"FBS coaches and staff members with football-specific responsibilities are allowed to participate in camps and clinics for 10 days in June and July.

Those camps must take place on a school’s campus or in facilities regularly used by the school for practice or competition. The rule is effective immediately but schools can honor contracts signed before Jan. 18."
