How is UT camp going?

Can you get a good sense of the team from open practices? Injuries? Update on the true frosh center? Has Buechele been really good or just better than Swoopes? How are the OL and the DL coming together?

Cal camp is almost over. They leave for Oz on Saturday to open the CFB season next Friday. Health of the team has been good. We hit a lot so there are some guys dinged up but nothing too serious. Our starting LT may miss the opener with a knee sprain but it looks like he will be practicing next week and could play if needed. Webb has been VERY good, the WRs have shown a penchant for big plays and mistakes. Secondary looks deep and athletic. Biggest questions are around how stout the D is against the run and whether we can find a consistent pass rush without blitzing.

I believe we're big favorites against Hawaii (3 TDs) so not sure how much we'll learn from the game. Best of luck against the Irish. Would be fantastic to see them lose - their arrogance and sense of entitlement know no bounds.

From what we are hearing, the team overall has more legit D1 bodies than we have had in awhile. The attitude of this team also seems to be on point, no divide between the older guys and younger (more talented) guys. A lot of young guys are pushing incumbent starters for playing time. As far as injuries - we have lost a couple of WRs and O-linemen for at least the next few weeks. 1 WR will miss some games. On the O-line the freshmen center you asked about and the potential starting RT both have sprained ankles with reported timelines to be ready for ND but who knows. Word is that Buechele has looked like the better option (still makes some freshmen mistakes) and the Swoopes has made personal improvements but is still not the best option. There have been some reports about Swoopes leading the QB battle but it's unclear if this is just misinformation to keep ND on their toes. The O-line has been a shuffle due to the above injuries. And on both lines freshmen are really pushing upperclassmen.

Hey watch it now, ND's reach knows no bounds either.

I really hope UTs lines are solid for ND. If you can hold your own on the LOS, you have a real chance to beat them. It's concerning that your OL is in flux and two starters may not be able to practice for some time. Are your two stud RBs finally healthy? I heard they were held out of the first scrimmage.

Interesting that the young DL are pushing their older teammates. Rare to see DTs especially play a lot of snaps as true frosh. They obviously have the size and recruiting pedigree to be impact players so its likely getting them to understand gap control, proper technique and mostly consistency of effort.

Nickerson is back playing RT in the Tuesday practice photos ForeWarrened is also in those photos.

Don't read too much into reports. The featured backs are both good to go with a hell of a punch to follow in Johnson and Porter.

The OL should get healthy and sorted out. Sounds like the RT is back in action already. Having the fresh center missing time isn't a good thing but at least he was here in the Spring. It'll be interesting to see how it ends up.

The RBs are fine, very precautionary stuff there.

The situation at DT is not surprising, depth was a major issue. There was a reason Strong recruited 6 DTs in this class. We will likely have 2 upperclassmen start with several freshmen rotating in. As the season goes on we will likely see more and more of the young players.

In one of the photos it shows one of the coaches who appears to be fussing at Dylan Haines. Why am I not surprised? Where is Metcalf to comment on this :)
