I-10 Closures Around San Antonio

I'm taking road trip with the family from El Paso to Houston in two weeks and I've been told that TXDOT has been shutting down I-10 around San Antonio on the weekends. Does anyone know about this and the best way to avoid any serious traffic? We're somewhat flexible on when we can drive through SA. I tried searching online for info but the only hit I got was an Express News article behind a paywall.
