It seems to me Iran wants a war with the US. It’s a calculated decision in response to the US tearing up the nuclear deal and exerting maximum pressure on Iran.
It won’t be a traditional war with a US invasion and takeover of the capital. We are not going to do that and Iran knows it. Iran does wants to get into a shooting war with the US and KSA. Once the shooting starts from both sides, Iran can really cut loose on the Saudi’s and possibly other gulf oil producers. Iran will take a lot of damage from the US, but they may be able to seriously hider oil production in the region. Oil still powers the global economy. We will be forced to negotiate or totally invade Iran. Iran is looking to negotiate from a position of strength. The sanctions are hurting them, but they are choosing to fight instead of negotiating from weakness.
