Just talked to UT commitments Jordan Whittington and Tyler Owens at the All-American Bowl check-in.
A couple notes of interest ...
Whittington told me he sees himself playing a role similar to that of Alvin Kamara for the Saints, which I thought was interesting. Meaning he'd get the ball as a receiver but also get some work out of the backfield. I asked him if that was something he would like and he said it's fine by him ... he'll take getting touches any way he can get them.
In looking back at his recruitment, Whittington said it was never as back-and-forth as people believed. He was pretty well locked in on Texas and said it was actually UCLA that finished second. A&M completely dropped off with him once Kevin Sumlin was let go.
That was the first time I'd ever stood right next to Tyler Owens and talked to him face to face. Consider me impressed. Big-time. This dude looks like an NFL player with his size and length. Owens told me he's 6-2 (and that's legit ... not an exaggerated 6-2) and his weight fluctuates between about 200-205 pounds. He's clocked a 10.34 in the 100 meters and told me the last time he tested his 40 was at a Baylor camp, where he ran a 4.31.
Owens said he's excited to show everyone on this type of stage what he can do. I'm excited to see it.
