He coached with Herman and Ash at Iowa St long ago. Don’t be surprised if ol Tom hires another comfort hire who will fall in line with Herman’s offensive philosophy.

Hiring people with the same work ethic or philosophy isn’t out of the norm. That’s why when a new CEO or CIO take over they bring their own in.

Yeah, I don't get the hatred of Herman hiring someone he has worked with before. It tells me he thinks they are a good coach, which is what he wants. He might be wrong but it's his decision and he's not going to hire someone he doesn't like to appease the fans.
I don't think it's about that. Look, you can make your player fit into your "system" or you can create a system that fits your players talents. We need less of the first and more of the second.

Agree we need Herman to fix his system. We need our fans to stop freaking out about him hiring people that he’s familiar with or has worked with. Just because it didn’t work out this year doesn’t mean his next hires will fail.

Some men have it in the back of their mind that hiring somebody that would be too impactful may actually undermine them. So, when everybody from the BMD, media and fans see a night and day difference of our impotent offense 2019 to an explosive offense in 2020 (theoretically) may earn TH some indirect heat. This would be akin to fans loving the backup QB when the starting QB is underperforming.

I personally think that it is a flawed premise because you want to hire the best to achieve your goal. If all of the credit goes to the staff under you (Ahem, Orgeron/Brady&Aranda) then fine, the next year after somebody hires him away, you get the next hot shot on the market and preserve your status as the CEO. TH can be the CEO we need, IMO but time is running out and these choices will make or break him.

I remember saban bringing in layne kiffin for the offense and Bama just exploding on O. Then I remember saban only growing as a legend.

I can’t remember who had the thought, but would luring Colt from his day job to be the OC make sense. I like the idea of it and couldn’t be worse than the last 10 years. His NFL, Texas, QB experience should be enough to compensate for lack of OC experience. It may be a far out idea, but worth thinking about.

And he is a coaches kid. I doubt he is anywhere near ready, but he might would make a hell of a coach...certainly has the pedigree

From a business perspective: A,B high performing managers are NOT afraid of hiring the best talent and letting them do their job. C-level (and below) can't handle the thought of hiring someone that can produce better than they could. Tom Herman seems to be the latter especially regarding the offense. It doesn't matter how smart one is when managing, bring in the stallions and let them run if you want to win.

Why do i find myself agreeing with Clob most of the time?

Clob loses me on all that toilet talk! =)roll
Everybody poops my man. And on a side note, there have been several occasions on here where we have all shared health and wellness stuff with each other that's been beneficial to many of us. Heck, I even learned we have a doctor in the house.

Person with 6 messages so far delivers claim about OC with zero sources. Sure, it could be true, but so could Colt McCoy be our next OC.

I love Colt as much as the next Longhorn, but Tom Herman would be stupid to hire Colt. Or maybe incredibly selfless.

Not sure why VY shouldn’t get a shot here. Dudes obviously a legend to the program that the kids would look up to. Herman would just need to be hands off and just let Vince be Vince.

Everything I see says it’s Yurcich. To be announced after Ohio St season ends. A comfort hire according to OB posters, which is dumb of course.

From TFB on Yurcich:
***I have asked about this and from what I’m told this sounds like it’s nearly a done deal. I was told at the very least this one has reached a contract phase so I think it’s safe to assume negotiations are done. I did hear through the grapevine that Washington is a school that may be looking at Yurcich so I suppose if the contract is in hand (which I believe it is) but hasn’t been signed that could change things. But again, it sounds like this one is pretty close to done.
