Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (Is history repeating?)

last years starter will be backup. I agree, can u get a bonfied stud kicker after shipley leave? And yea, i guess with ore scholarships theres no excuse, but I dont see an outcome where a legit kicker comes here as a walk on to sit behind and hope he can come in one day

Yep, I agree. How do you get two good/decent/great portal players with experience for one spot.

We are looking to need to do that for kicker and punter next year.

I call it being prepared.

How do you accomplish that with one spot, or do you roll the dice that they pan out and/or don't get hurt?

In a 105, you go with more than one spot.

Great reason that's a silly comparison.
It's not. The same principle exists.

For instance, Coastal Carolina's Kade Hensley is available. In a world where you have two spaces, you...

a. Tell him the job is an open competition (even if you tell the other guy that it's his job).
b. It's a chance to play for a top level program.
c. It's a chance to live in a world-class city and attend a world-class university.
d. Maybe throw him some NIL coin, which would otherwise be very, very limited.

It's like dating multiple girls at once. You tell them what they need to hear. That's what recruiting is.

People bet on themselves all the time. What they can't control is opportunities.

This Kade Hensley? Dude went 16/19 last season and someone is expecting him to come ride the bench?

I'll add, betting on yourself has taken on a TOTALLY different meaning in the age of the portal, now you can hedge your bet, but if the house screws up, they can be screwed.. You can't sign someone midseason like the NFL.

You must be confused how any player ever commits to a school after another player has committed there.

I don't know what Hensley's opportunities look like. Maybe he has a bunch. Maybe he has minimal. You use your leverage. Texas has a lot. I sure as hell wouldn't put all of my eggs into the basket of a kid that has never kicked at this level before. I'd have an insurance policy that can be more than that if needed.

What is our insurance policy at punter? Stone? Arch maybe? Should have been able to find a way to keep Kern imo.

I do have some experience and knowledge about kickers and punters committing.

That's a good question. They went into last season without one. I doubt they'll have a very good one.

Do do I. I've been doing this for 30 years.

We went into the season with this guy, right?

@Ketchum

Could you do a post spring power ranking of the SEC like the ones you and the staff did last year after each week?

Would be cool to see
-post spring or pre fall camp
- post fall camp

And compare them to the end of the season

Just an idea. And if it’s too much leg work to get the staff involved then just you would be great.

Give....it....a....rest. For the love of God, stop.

Why did he earn it over a guy like Jerrin Thompson or Kitan Crawford?
Because Quinn was the first domino that gave sark momentum and laid the initial foundation for Texas to land an Xavier Worthy, made texas more viable Arch (as he wouldn't have to be the savior), and start show that we're building a championship contender. He never fully reached the ceiling we all envisioned for him, but the perception of his ceiling was equally in helping the program revival.

Not sure I fully understand the connection you're making to Kitan and Jerrin?
