Ketch's 10 Thoughts From the Weekend (It all comes down to this ...)

These are my top 10 all-time NBA point guards:

1. Magic Johnson
2. Oscar Robertson
3. Steph Curry
4. Isaiah Thomas
5. Jerry West
6. Bob Cousy
7. Jason Kidd
8. Steve Nash
9. Tony Parker
10. John Stockton

I know this is yours but how do you not have Allen Iverson on this list? And how is Jerry West not in the top 3? I am just curious?

Allen Iverson wasn't a point guard, unless you think Eric Snow was a shooting guard.

West has one MVP and one ring. Amazing all-time player, but his resume has some holes, even if he is the logo.

I'm glad you included Tony Parker. He absolutely belongs on the top ten point guards of all time. He won 4 championships, a Finals MVP, 6 time All-Star and was the driving force for the Spurs' run from 2012-2014 when they went to the WCF, and back to back NBA Finals in three consecutive years. In my opinion, he was the best or close to the best point guard in the league during that three year run - better than Chris Paul during that span.

Can you believe so many Spurs fans (not including myself) wanted to trade Parker in 2010 and make George Hill the point guard?

Fans is short for fanatics, so yeah, I can believe they'd want or think stupid things.:D

"Curry is a good shooter"

lol...

2 time MVP, three-time champion, greatest shooter in NBA history.

Reggie Miller was never better than third-team All-NBA in his entire career and he only did that three times.

I think Curry is one of those guys like Iverson or Vince Carter who people overrate in the present, but over time will fall on most lists. He's considered the greatest shooter ever because he was kind of a pioneer in being the first super volume 3 point shooter. There will be many, many more going forward.

Come on...

Everybody pretended like Iverson and Carter were all time greats when they were playing too.

He may not finish in top 25 in points or assists for his career. His 3 point field goal percentage will likely drop as he ages. I'm not saying he isn't a great player, just maybe not in the top 10-15 range.

He's on his way to being the second-best point guard in history.

It's a joke to compare to guys without rings and multiple MVPs to him.

BTW, who the hell ever called Vince Carter an all-time great?

Manolo,
I think you and Ketch may be missing my point. The Horns had no will to win in OKC and that wasn't even a month ago. I just want to see our guys yelling and screaming. I want to see our coach pinch hit for a guy who is struggling at the plate. I don't want our players to say "we're not worried about the next game". Tenn. Tech has flown under major radar and we better respect what they're going to come with tomorrow. Lose some sleep, play with grit. Yell at each other like you want to win. Sorry, maybe that's just me talking. I'll sign off for tonight.
They had no will to win because there was nothing to win. People have to get off this "Conference Tournaments" mean something. They don't and those two loses did nothing to Texas except give them extra rest for the games that do count.

Tony Parker being better than Allen Iverson??

LMAO...jokes??

Could Tony Parker have carried those Philly teams the way Iverson did? You replace Allen Iverson with Tony Parker, do the Sixers go to the finals in 2001?

I like Tony Parker...but he was never even the best player on the Spurs..

No one has ever walked around Austin singing the virtues of Big 12 tournament championships. Has never happened.

Allen Iverson wasn't a point guard. He'd be in the shooting guard list.

P.s. - Eric Snow was the POINT GUARD on the Sixers team in the Finals.

If you gotta play, you should play to win. I'm hoping you're right about the psychology of this. Maybe we just disagree. I say don't ever let your players dog it because of the "next big thing".

I turned on the USA-France soccer friendly this weekend. It took 13 seconds from kickoff for France to pass it backwards all the way to their goalie.

Then I turned off soccer.

My WC prediction; USA beats Canada in the semi's and then loses a offensive slug fest to Netherlands 2-1 in the finals despite pulling their goalie. But in fairness, I haven't really scouted the teams much.

Normally I'm not much of a "gloat at your opponent" guy. But I see red when another school does the horns down thing so when Tn Tech players did that after game 1, I was happy to see Clemens show them up on his HR. It was like watching George Teague tackle Terrell Owens when he stood on the star at Cowboys Stadium.

If you want to stick your Aggie thumb in the air, or get your Texas Tech guns up then I'm all for you pimping your school spirit. But Horns down is blatant disrespect for your opponent and it's classless. F'em.

I love that the supposed biggest World Sports event is about to start and half of this board filled with rabid sports fans doesn't even know about it or care. That translates to about 80% or more of average Americans are clueless and don't care about to the World Cup. Luckily there's only 82 days left until football.

close to 2 billion people like cricket - you want to have a section on that as well? if the US was in it, I might give a single F - without the US in it, i'm as ZFG - maybe that makes a bad shallow person, maybe it doesn't, i don't know - i'm generally tapped out on the amount of sports i can give a F about.

Allen Iverson has averaged more assists a game than Tony Parker...so even as a ball hog, he was a better passer. We all know that Iverson is the superior scorer to to the two..

So what exactly did Tony Parker do better than AI?

Still isn't universally regarded as a point guard. If he were, he'd be higher than Parker.

These are my top 15 all-time NBA players:

1. Michael Jordan
2. LeBron James
3. Magic Johnson
4. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar
5. Wilt Chamberlin
6. Shaquille O’Neal
7. Tim Duncan
8. Larry Bird
9. Kobe Bryant
10. Hakeem Olajuwon
11. Bill Russell
12. Oscar Robertson
13. Kevin Durant
14. Elgin Baylor
15. Steph Curry

I know I'm late to the party, but you know I can't let this thread go without commenting on your top 15.

My 1-4 is exactly the same as yours for starters. Good job there.

My clear #5 is Russell for all the reasons I've said before. 11 rings, 9-10 finals MVP awards (if they had given out Finals MVPs in that era), 5 regular season MVP awards, and 7-1 vs Wilt head to head in playoff series. If you were writing this article in 1972 with all those head to head victories fresh in your mind, there's no way you'd ever rank Wilt ahead of Russell.

I have Duncan #6, Wilt #7, Bird #8. Thoughts here... You can talk me into Wilt at #6, but how great can Wilt really be if he was traded two times during his prime... once for Connie Dierking, Paul Neumann, Lee Shaffer, and once for Jerry Chambers, Archie Clark, and Darrell Imhoff. If you have heard of even one of those six stiffs, I'll give you Wilt at #6 instead of #7. Duncan with 5 titles in a 30 team league compared to Wilt with 2 titles in a 10 team league, along with being a much better teammate, smarter player, and the polar opposite of Wilt in a guy who cared more about winning than stats.

That covers all 8 tier 1 guys (multiple MVP, multiple titles, and multiple finals MVP awards). So we move to tier 2 guys. #9 Kobe, #10 Shaq, #11 Hakeem. Kobe gets the edge over Shaq on durability (never showed up to camp overweight/out of shape), longevity of greatness and winning 2 titles after the Shaq trade as the best player, where Shaq won 1 title as 2nd best player after the trade. Kobe also has the edge over Shaq in 1st team all NBA selections (9-8) and a huge edge in all-defense selections (12-3 total, 9-0 1st team). Hakeem's two titles are simply not enough to get him ahead of Shaq with 4 or Kobe with 5.

So we have the same 11 guys 1-11, and after that, I'd go Jerry West at 12, Oscar at 13, Moses at 14, and slide in Durant at 15. Without another regular season MVP, I have Durant's ceiling at #9 and without winning at least 5 titles (or at least one title on a team other than this Warriors team), I have his ceiling at #11.

No strong preference in either player (both great), but i always read/thought of Iverson as a PG. A bit of a ball hog PG, but a PG nonetheless. PGs by nature usually have the ball in their hands a majority of time...none of the others with that titile could assist and score like Iverson.

Harden a rare exception, though the team called him PG the year before getting CP, then he was 'officialy" back to SG.
