It's the type of topic that will render everything else I wrote about a moot point. I'm not trying to undermine my hard work.
How did I take it out of context? I agreed with you 100%. You now say you were saying you can't compare, and I agreed that you can't hold Texas or anyone else to that standard.
You know, you really like to argue. Even when you are arguing with yourself.
Do you really think that if we flush Aston, that we will get another coach to perform better than 4 tournament participations, 2 Sweet 16's and one Elite Eight in their first 5 years?
Would you agree that if Shaka, in his three years had 3 tournament participations, a Sweet 16 and an Elite Eight under his belt here at Texas, that the Shaka dialogue would be completely different?
You highlighted 1/3 of the sentence and used it to suggest I was comparing the program to U.Conn when the rest of the sentence makes it clear that I wasn't doing that.
Texas hasn't earned the right to make that comparison.
a. I'm not an advocate of flushing Aston. I have never suggested that.
b. Sweet 16's in women's college basketball are not the same thing as they are in the men's game.
c. The issue I'm asking about is the fact that Aston's program appears to be stuck in gear in trying to go from the third-tier of the sport to the second-tier of the sport.
Maybe she needs to have a conversation with Chris Dailey(being inducted into the women's basketball hall of fame as part of the 2018 class). Dailey has a knack for doing team-building stuff, the off-the-court stuff, and making sure the players are ready to enter the real world after they leave the campus. Phenomenal coach.
Pretty sure Aston would learn a lot after that conversation. How can she not? Dailey has helped Auriemma and UConn to 11 national championships(and possibly another), six perfect seasons and 45 conference championships (23 regular season, 22 tournaments). She has had a major impact as the Huskies' recruiting coordinator, helping land 22 players who have been honored as first-team All-Americans 41 times.
People think I'm coming down hard on Aston and I'm not. I'm just asking questions.
Nothing about this season suggested that this was a team moving towards another level.

I would suggest a Clarity Break.
a. Then what are you advocating? If that is not it, what is the purpose of the dialogue?
b. There are over 300 teams in NCAA Women's Basketball. Isn't making it to the top 8 (or top 16) at least to the second tier? I'll bet there are about 333 teams out there that would think so.
c. Admittedly, going from Elite eight in 2017 to Sweet 16 is not "advancing", but there are a lot of schools who would be happy to contend for Sweet 16, Elite 8 participation every year. You don't think Texas should "settle" for this, and I can't argue against that. Somehow, after following the lynchmobs that went after Mack and Rick, and then seeing the aftermath of Strong and Smart, I tend to want to move a little slower. An Elite 8 next year would keep me happy with Aston (but, hey, that's just me).
By the way, I am not saying that it wasn't time to make a change with either Mack or Rick, but I've been around long enough to have endured Akers, McWilliams and Mackovic, so I know that "doing better" is a crap shoot. Finding head coaching crown jewels has not been Texas' administration's forte.

Haha. Not at all!!! He’s graded a little differently I think. Scores are for Herman and his coaches. Yancey is in charge of strength and conditioning.
a. I'm advocating discussion and seeking clarity on what expectations are for the head coach of the women's basketball program going into year seven.

People say that about the whole...but it’s not true when evaluating the pieces. It’s the lazy argument.
Lot of lazy arguments end up being the things that ultimately define people. Don't confuse me telling it like it is with supporting it in full.
I doubt there is any thought of firing her. She wins a lot of games. Her recent teams have been playing small against big, jump shots against layups. That is a losing formula, even with Atkins and McCarty. Tall and and athletic posts are difference makers because there are so few of them in women's basketball. She has to change the kind of players she brings in or there will be a long line of more of the same.
