Ketch's 10 Thoughts From The Weekend (When will the in-state recruiting momentum take off?)

I think you should cover it and include the national recruits we are in on. At this point it’s pretty clear Sark likes some Texas players but not all.
Our classes will always be at a higher risk of dropping off if we do not recruit Texas well. Depending on national recruiting every year is not a recipe for success.

Have to start dominating the state again if we want sustained excellence.

Nope

Sark's won-loss record last year for the top players in Texas was poor and it has nothing to do with him not liking them.

It was compensated with great OOS recruiting. It might have to happen again. Sark will likely make it happen because he's great OOS.

Nice write up.

I know that I am biased but with being in the CFP, I would have thought there was more in state interest than in '24. In '24 the HS cruits had not really seen the fruits of Sark's work. Now it is pretty obvious.

I think it was just lack of clear visibility on who we might win. They kept fighting for Fillisalme and that broke our way, Mack flipped, and Wingo was a wildcard as well.

Its not a slight, it’s just that Sark has a different style and seems to close on tough OOS studs where its really close.

If you just look at Texas you are missing the bigger picture. Just my thoughts.
It was because Texas wasn't winning with elite Texas kids and at the time it was hard to pinpoint the big OOS that they would land.

I'll give more benefit of the doubt this year.

It might still happen. The spring will be interesting to watch.

That is fair. It’s more them not liking us, which for years was a huge issue because we couldn’t recruit well outside our border.

If you look at the top 10, especially the top 5, the rosters are not 90% in state.

He will also probably make up some ground, but we did lose a couple of coaches that could set us back.

I think we lead for a couple of Mater Dei kids.

Maybe it’s just me but I love the fact if some stud wants to go to aggy, we go find an OOS kid ti make sure we can still beat that ass.

Isn’t that what I said? But we also did close late with an additional blue chip that was not even a consideration early on. One difference is that Sark keeps recruiting them regardless.

It’s totally different than anything I have seen before at Texas and it’s about ****ing time

That is not anything anyone is saying.
Ok

What I am saying is that to compete at that level you have to go outside your borders, like we are doing. And like other have done to us for years and we have repeatedly failed to return the favor.

think “kissing a fool” is underrated. it’s top 10 for me.

just can’t understand why we’re so behind with top in-state recruits.

Texas with the top 20 prospects in the state of Texas.

Wins (3): Simmons, Black and Filsaime

Losses (9): Hudson, J. Williams, Bussey, Jonah-Ajonye, Wesco, Gipson, Frazier, W. Davis and N. Smith

I'm not saying you have to flip that number upside down, but there's not one of those 9 guys that Texas didn't want.

If they can get those numbers to 6-6 or 7-5, Texas would have had the No.1 class in America.

No one is saying not to recruit bad ass out of state.

Fair

Recruiting Texas has become even more brutal than usual. The good news is he at least has a plan and gets them in the end instead of losing them.

Should be another fun ride.

I was under the impression that that playoff appearance was going to have a big effect on the 2025 class. Still early, but there doesnt appear to be much momentum. I guess we will find out in July.

Understood. He talked about the importance of being able to do it and the increased willingness of kids to go farther from home.

We lost a DL which is gonna hurt so I get the risk. He is just pretty good at it so I don’t see it getting worse anytime soon.

I'm at zero.
I’m at more than zero but I also believe winning cures everything, if we can keep that up. In-state talent is one of the massive couple of advantages that makes UT a premier football school, just as for LSU and Georgia. If we can’t/don’t take advantage of it, then we’re shooting ourselves in the foot.

If they can ever recruit in-state and OOS at the same time at an elite level... watch the hell out.
I don’t think HS players from Texas care about staying home. Seems like most of the top players automatically want to go out of state. Victim of mediocrity

Why? Because that's what happened in the last year? It wasn't really an issue in 2022 recruiting.
