It's kind of flown under the radar and hasn't drawn a bunch of discussion, but Texas commitment LaGaryonn Carson took a visit to Baylor last weekend for the Bears' junior day, which actually took place on Friday night.
The good news for Texas ... Carson remains committed. The bad news ... the Longhorns are definitely going to have to work to hold onto the big-time DE's commitment.
Key quote: "Right now I'm still committed to Texas. I don't know for sure in the future if things will change, but for right now it's Texas," Carson said of his commitment.
On the Baylor visit: The 6-5, 285-pound Carson was accompanied on the visit by his teammate at Texarkana Liberty-Eylau, Franklin Smith. Carson described the visit as one he wasn't taking too seriously, but he also said the Baylor coaches are working him to open up his commitment. Better get in line.
"I just went down there to visit. It wasn't anything too serious. Franklin Smith went down there with me," Carson said. "I went down there for a practice."
"Baylor is hitting me pretty solid I guess. Like everyone. They just told me they want me to come there," Carson added.
The Baylor coaches focused on the usual recruiting tactics ... telling Carson they need him to improve their defense, that he'll play as true freshman.
"They were saying I'll play right away, that I'm not going to redshirt, all of that stuff," Carson said.
On his UT commitment: Carson remains committed, but as he's said in our past conversations, he used terms like "for right now" sprinkled in to our conversation. It's far too early to hit the panic button, but Carson is likely to be recruited by just about every major program in the country and the Longhorns may have to sweat out some worrisome moments over the course of his recruitment.
"It's just the coaches and the school and the teammates," Carson said of the UT draw. "I know in my class Sam Ehlinger. I know Malik Jefferson. Mostly though it's just the environment around Texas and the fans."
UT coaches not worried: I asked Carson if he'd spoken with the UT staff since his Baylor visit and he said he had not, mostly because the Texas coaches aren't too worried about his status.
"They weren't that worried about (the visit). It's not that big of a deal," Carson said.
Carson is going to try to attend UT's spring game on April 16.
