Here is a press release I received:
University of Texas Brings SyncThink’s EYE-SYNC Concussion Solution to its Athletics Sports Medicine Division
The University’s athletics program will utilize the device to enhance its in-game concussion protocol and return-to-practice/play decisions
Palo Alto, CA--August 30, 2017- SyncThink, a leader in neuro-technology, today announces that The University of Texas athletics sports medicine staff will employ EYE-SYNC technology to the Longhorns’ sports programs, including Texas football. The objective concussion solution is available for on-field evaluations and in the locker rooms for return-to-practice/play decisions.
Dr. Jamshid Ghajar MD, PhD of Stanford University and founder of SyncThink, developed EYE-SYNC to combine a modified Virtual Reality goggle and eye-tracking technology in order to objectively evaluate impairments associated with concussion. In some cases, an evaluation could be taken in just 60 seconds. The device can accurately assess ocular-motor synchronization deficits and vestibular balance dysfunction. It includes the most recent release of the SCAT5. EYE-SYNC is also cloud-connected and HIPAA compliant, providing an option to deliver a patient’s results to a consulting clinician in an instant.
Such procedures underscore UT’s desire to better protect student-athletes, by utilizing technology to assess a concussive related impairment right after it happens.
Scott Anderson, the former Director of Athletic Training at Stanford University, and SyncThink’s Chief Customer officer, has seen first-hand how advantageous the EYE-SYNC technology can be and will work with Texas athletics for the full adoption of the solution.
“We are thrilled to work with The University of Texas,” Anderson said “It is clear they are leading the way in terms of providing top notch care for their student athletes, and we look forward to our EYE-SYNC solution expanding on that by providing them with key insights to measure, identify, and resolve disorientation in order to ensure a safe return to practice and play.”
Joining Iowa State University and Stanford University, with other programs to follow, The University of Texas will be able to reap the benefits of using EYE-SYNC for its baseline screening and concussion management protocol.
