Notre Dame Gametime

in 2016, it will kick off in September, late summerish.... I expect an evening game to avoid the heat. nothing more will be available until TV contracts become known. Honestly that is the best you can expect right now. I would avoid weddings and surgery including births of babies etc. Got to have values pal, got to have and know what is important. no need to thank me, just doin my job...

Texas back 7 on defense is going to be damn good, a hell of a lot better than last year. Problem is our front 3/4 is going to be a work in progress, hopefully with graduation their oline won't be as good as last year.

I'm not sure what to expect from our offense but we should be improved, how much, I have no idea.

We lose 2 very good OLs to graduation and the NFL

But 1 replacement already started games in 2015 (LT Alex Bars) and the other spot (Center) will have 2-3 high 4*s battling it out. Plus the winner will be surrounded by 2 330lbs+ OGs with 4 total years of starting experience.

Given what we bring back, what we add, and what we lose....I expect our OL to be aprons the same overall....but different

Our OL will be bigger and significantly more physical, but it won't be as freakishly athletic in the edge (though we should still be one of the most athletic OLs in major CFB)

The main question will be "Does having a new Center create inconsistency early in the season?"

Personally, I'd expect us to be able to run the ball very effectively on pretty much any team short of 2011/2015 Bama.....considering the OL...plus what we returner/add at RB and QB

The RB and TE will probably be a much bigger part of our game plan than when you faced us in 2015....as will the QB run game

Honestly...I expect our D line to be much improved over last year. We did lose Ridgeway, but he was hurt last year and only really had one great game (sorry OU)...others will now have more experience.

If Texas can stop the run, they'll have a legit shot at nt only covering, but pulling the outright upset

If ND rushes for 200+ and 4+ YPC again, then I think ND will again win going away

The ND OL v. Texas DL matchup (plus the RB/TE/QB v. LB/S in the run game) is the matchup of the game, IMO

How Texas's QB play turns out is probably a close 2nd

What is the ND defense looking like?

Our oline should be much more improved, we have 3 starters returning and a lot of talent at the guard spot to chose from. Center will be a work in progress.

We have a legit TE that can both block and catch the ball. We have 2 great RBs and a couple of talented guys looking to get touches. That will be the strength of this offense. We have some talent at WR, but our QB is so unknown it's almost comical.

The easy answer about the Texas offense is as our QB goes so goes this offense.

With basically a whole new offensive staff we have no idea what to expect.

We lost a lot of NFL talent, but have done a solid job of recruiting the last couple years. Well likely have a 5* or 4* player starting at every position, but for 5-6 of them, this will be heir first year as a full time starter. For 1-2 the Texas game will be their first CFB start at all.

I would expect our run defense to be the strength of that unit, and to be pretty strong overall.

Only 4 teams managed to run for 200+ on us in 2015. Two of those were triple-option offenses, the other two were read option offenses with ALOT of talent (Clemson and Ohio State)

Teams have had most success attacking us in the passing game, especially mixing quick hitting passes with the occasional downfield pass or trick play.
The weakest areas of our defense is the edge rush from our DEs and coverage play of our Ss

Losing guys like Jaylon Smith, Sheldon Day, and even Romeo Okwara could change the complexion of our defense, but if we're about as expected....attacking us primarily through there run game will be very tough

Uh, you do realize the horns have hired new offensive coaches specifically to install Art Briles' Baylor offense for next fall?

It's simple to plan for how to defend it. See, you choose your own poison. You want them to run you to death, drop your safety deep, cover all those 5 receivers sideline to sideline, with an extra db to help cover.

Tell your LB's to move outside to cover a slot receiver, but be ready to scramble back to the middle like crazy to tackle one of their freight train RB's in open space.

Or, you may want to defend the run by loading up the box, play man pass coverage.

This is what Mich St chose in the Cotton against Baylor year before last. Even though some fluke ref calls and bad decisions by BU allowed the Spartans to pull out the game at the last second, Mich Sts mighty defense gave up over 600 yards of passing. the most in bowl history.

So, maybe you choose to defend the pass like No. Carolina did this yr in the Russell Ath bowl against Baylor? Of course, it didn't work out as Baylor routed them setting an all time bowl rushing record with 645 yards.

You Domers shouldn't be all giddy bout last year's mauling of the horns. Remember! Paybacks are hell!

Just a quick heads up, this was the same story leading into the 2015 game

"With the new OC, you won't know what we're going to run, and our hurry up spread attack will work 100%"

There is a ton more to having a successful offense then just wanting to run the scheme that Baylor did/does

But the matchup hat will really determine the winner of this game, IMO, has nothing to do with Texas's offense

If Notre Dame runs the ball for 200+ yards at 4+ YPC again (like they did in 2015) I don't think Texas will be able to win, no matter the offensive scheme they run

#1 Priority for Texas needs to be winning up front defensively

#2 Needs to be QB play...

Our offense was still a mess all year trying to use different qb formations. We now have a new fresh qb Shane Buchelle I know you have heard of him. Metcalf favorite qb that RS this past year Kia. And we have another RS strong arm qb by the name of Merrick that this new offense will fit very well. It will be an interesting summer! Go watch some of Tulsa offense this past season especially against ou and you will see the offense at work. Remember its Tulsa and they don't have half the talent as other teams. Like others have said on here the big uglies will be better next year. DL still up in the air but our LB and defense backs very physical and will be a year older. SPEED SPEED SPEED! Will make for a very interesting game.

I like Buechele as a prospect, but I don't view him as an instant game changer (at all)

I also like Kia as a "read-option only QB", somewhat like Heard
Both of those guys are fantastically athletic and have the arm strength needed to make good throws, but neither seems to have developed much accuracy, touch, or field vision yet.......which is a major problem for playing QB

I'm not a fan of Swoopes, at all

It will be interesting to see what offensive product Texas puts on the field v. Notre Dame next year....especially considering that we're better at defending the run and we'll be slanting to force the Texas QB's to attack us through the air
