OFFICIAL Playoff Argument Thread- Who's in and Why

That was me preparing my brothers in arms for the worst case scenario.
People put in decision making paradigms like that can act coo-coo.
My fear was that they'd pop a metal spring and punish Texas for what they may perceive as our past transgressions.
Admit it-- it was a HUGELY pressured moment the likes of which has NEVER been seen in the modern era of college football.

I'm glad I planned for the worst.
you werent the only ones planned for disaster. We all knew deep down there was a chance Texas would get fvkced. Im just pumped that we got in!

ps we already have as many wins in the CFP AS blowu

and we have been more times than aggy.

WHAT A GREAT WEEKEND.

That’s why you should have listened to me last night after Bama won. There was no way they were leaving Bama out and there was also no way they could leave us out after they put Bama in. All logic pointed to that.

I agree that they couldn’t have included Bama over us, but I still feel like FSU got screwed.

Leaving FSU out was the right call but it does suck for them. The reality is someone was gonna get screwed and it was more justifiable to leave FSU out than it was Alabama or Texas.

The reality is the playoff should have been 8 teams from the get go. The fact that it took 9 years to have more than 4 teams deserving is lucky.

I don’t buy the poor FSU BS. They went undefeated in a shitty conference. Liberty won every game too and nobody is pissing down their leg for them. That fact of the matter is if the B12, B19, PAC2, SEC, and the ACC all go undefeated, somebody would get left out. FSU wouldn’t be in the top 3 in any of the other conferences.

I think FSU has the best defense in the country......

it should have been

Michigan
Washington
FSU
Texas

But the CFP didnt want to piss of the SEC.

I get it Bama beat the number 1 team in the country..congrats..HOWEVER. Starting Friday it was playoff season, you lose youre out. EVERYONE knew that. Gerogia loss, they out. Bama won so they get to be talked about head to head with the other 1 loss should be 4th place team. TEXAS. We beat them head to head and Bama should have been left out. Easy as that..

Had nothing to do with "not listening" to you bud. It had to do with--- this was the most unprecedented playoff scenario in college football history. There was no road map for this. No precedent. Somebody was going to get fvcked. I just had a a slight suspicion that it could end up being us.

It's IMPOSSIBLE to read the minds of a committee sitting in a room- all from varying backgrounds- and predict their actions.

Was UG the best team in the country? The same fools voted them #1 that kept insisting Oregon was better than us. The reality is that head to head is the only true indicator of who is better than who.

Right now of the last 4 there is only one team that. Beat another....and that is us over Bama.

And...yes FSU got jobbed. Somebody had to. Their own fault for playing such a weak ass schedule.

If we had messed around and barely beat Tech and then just barely got by Oklahoma State I would have agreed with you. But the way we handled business the last 2 weeks is a big part of the reason we got in. Those style points along with the win in Tuscaloosa were the 2 things that got us in.

And Bama beating Georgia...

They didn't get jobbed because of their schedule. If their QB 1 is playing they're definitely getting the 3 spot.
Why?...hard to tell how good a team is if they play weak opposition....no matter the qb...

Seems like I remember undefeated Boise St never getting consideration...

Hahaha Dillon Gabriel transferring out of blowu just like Ohio State starting qb
This is the first domino. OU is about to fall apart which is a clear indication that the players are not all in with Vegetables. Not surprising at all. Hearing through the grapevine that OU isn’t very generous with their NIL opportunities so players like Gabby could make significantly more money elsewhere. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear more players from OU entering the portal.

Why is everyone complaining about a 1 Loss Bama Team moving ahead of FSU, yet nobody is complaining about a 1 Loss UT Team doing the same thing? The argument should be Bama or Texas at #4 as FSU technically based on what everyone is saying should have been the #3 Seed. I personally think the committee got it correct and it turned out how I thought it would based on my previous post.

As for DG, this isn't a shock at all. Jaxson Arnold was going to be the Starter next year and it's still possible that DG enters the draft.

Ummmm, the following article would dispute that assertion:

LOL! It actually proves my argument. OU has nobody in the top 15 NIL valuations. If OU wants to keep up with the big boys they need to step up their NIL game pronto. Hell, even our backup QB has a higher NIL ranking than Gabby.

Remember that Vegetables served with Dabo Swinney for many years and they likely share the same philosophy regarding NIL, which is a backward philosophy in today’s environment. They aren’t necessarily against it but they aren’t big supporters and promoters of NIL and the transfer portal. It’s not something they believe in and are not prepared to go all in with it. Players and recruits see it and they are rightfully acting in their own best interests. If OU doesn’t right their sinking ship, they’ll soon be just another average program like Clemson.

What are you looking at? Gabriel is tied for 12th with Jordan Travis, Hartman, Penix and Drake Maye and is only $100k behind Ewers and a couple others. Yes, going from 6-7 last year to currently 10-2 this year with a win over Texas is definitely the traits of a sinking ship.

There should be zero argument between Texas and Bama if it had come down to that because of the head to head aspect…

OU going into year 1 of the SEC with a redshirt freshman QB is going to be a lot of fun for them. They could be staring down another 6-7 win season.

Which why I said they should have given JA a lot more snaps this year. Honestly, after the OSU loss effectively eliminated them from the conference championship I would have turned it over to Arnold and started getting him ready for next year. Even with a freshman QB, they would have been favored in every game after OSU.

Not quite.

This was not a huge surprise, and Gabriel and OU are parting on good terms. Gabriel's decision, in part, was due to the fact there was no guarantee he was going to be the starting QB if he came back next year. There would be an open competition in spring practice and he probably didn't want to take a chance on being a backup QB in his final college season. Jackson Arnold (who had to burn his redshirt this year), has unlimited potential and will be ready to take the reigns in 2024.

I think Gabriel is likely to follow Jeff Lebby to Mississippi State.

“Unlimited potential” you say? Does the Baby fat freshman have Gabriel’s mobility?

Exactly. This time next year, FSU gets in.
The only good thing is this guarantees that conference winners will keep a slot in the future. There's been talk about keeping the 12 team playoff to the "best" 12 teams, but after this year's debacle there's no chance that the committee changes the rules regarding conference champs getting a guaranteed slot.

What weak ass schedule? If that's the criteria, then Michigan should have been left out. The ACC isn't any worse than the Big 10 Top-to-Bottom. Beating 'Ville isn't any less of an accomplishment than beating Iowa. And FSU at least played LSU and Florida (SEC teams) in their non-conference slate. Michigan played who again? A home game against Ohio State and 12 heaping piles of garbage including a non-conference of (East Carolina, UNLV, and Bowling Green). The committee should have left them out and said, "this is the consequence of choosing to avoid playing difficult non-conference games". One action would have improved college football scheduling (and thus TV revenue) for the next 10 years.
