My grandfather on 1945 in Paris "When we landed that bomber in Paris we could barely make it off the air field. They just mobbed us with hugs and kisses."

One week later---- "a week later they started treating us like we'd farted in church...."

De Gaulle was a asshole from the start to the Allied Command! He wanted French soldiers in Paris 1st, Ike told the Frog to piss off!

say stranger....how many Frenchmen took part in the landing at Omaha Beach anyway?....I know that many many French resistance fighters did heroic work, but where was degaul in that anyway?

P.S.....When you go to Normandy todayyou are treated very, very well. The French in that area love Americans and are to this day appreciative.

The way thye story goes, DeGaulle went to Supreme HQ after Ike gave the go, and demanded that the French soldiers were part of it. As it was said Ike and him had heated words..

On June 6, 1944, the Free French land forces deployed on Sword Beach are composed of two troops and a section. There are 177 commandos (1er Bataillon de Fusiliers Marins) led by Commandant Philippe Kieffer.

In the early hours of June 6, 1944, four sticks of 8 paratroopers from Free France belonging to the 3rd battalion under Bourgoin were dropped over Brittany.

And was at Atwerp and Casino. Damn interesting stuff Old! Planning that you will never see in a lifetime...again..

Not quite Stranger....Ike was ever mindful of our allies and sensitive to their operational and strategic needs. Sometimes at the expense of American considerations. This is really what made Ike such an outstanding coalition commander, though much less celebrated as a strategist. Ike did in fact allow the Free French 2nd Armored Division (largely American equipped) to take the lead role in the liberation of Paris, supported heavily by the U.S. 4th Infantry Division.

Advice from An Old Farmer

Your fences need to be horse-high, pig-tight and bull-strong.
Keep skunks and bankers at a distance.
Life is simpler when you plow around the stump.
A bumble bee is considerably faster than a John Deere tractor.
Words that soak into your ears are whispered… not yelled.
Meanness don’t jes’ happen overnight.
Forgive your enemies; it messes up their heads.
Do not corner something that you know is meaner than you.
It don’t take a very big person to carry a grudge.
You cannot unsay a cruel word.
Every path has a few puddles.
When you wallow with pigs, expect to get dirty.
The best sermons are lived, not preached.
Most of the stuff people worry about ain’t never gonna happen anyway.
Don’t judge folks by their relatives.
Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
Live a good, honorable life… Then when you get older and think back, you’ll enjoy it a second time.
Don ‘t interfere with somethin’ that ain’t bothering you none.
Timing has a lot to do with the outcome of a Rain dance.
If you find yourself in a hole, the first thing to do is stop diggin’.
Sometimes you get, and sometimes you get got.
The biggest troublemaker you’ll probably ever have to deal with, watches you from the mirror every mornin’.
Always drink upstream from the herd.
Good judgment comes from experience, and a lotta that comes from bad judgment.
Lettin’ the cat outta the bag is a whole lot easier than puttin’ it back in.
If you get to thinkin’ you’re a person of some influence, try orderin’ somebody else’s dog around..
Live simply. Love generously. Care deeply. Speak kindly. Leave the rest to God.
Don’t pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he’ll just kill you.
Most times, it just gets down to common sense.

One of my favorite breeds. I was in the Military Police in the US Army and our dog handlers were a great bunch of guys and girls. However, the dogs were unbelievable and were invaluable.
We had two dogs turned loose in a bar fight while in Korea. That mob of soldiers and visiting Marines from Okinawa forgot in a hurry what the fight was about. They were all trying to get somewhere in a hurry.

Oh you weren't entirely wrong. Ike did get to tell the French to piss up a rope during the French-Indochina War. The Frenchies came to us hat in hand, asking for troops, aircraft and carrier air. They wanted Ike to place all of it under French command. This is when he got the chance to tell them we'd give some planes and material support, but there was no way American troops or sailors were going to fight under French commanders. It's just too bad DeGaulle wasn't the president of France at the time...that would have made it even sweeter....
