I don't know either but the guy in charge of the project was Plan II about 1989.

It's the end of the world as we know it.

I blame Bob Stoops. For not recruiting the UT grad that ultimately created this phenomenon.

The only reason a Plan II kid would look at OU would be for the National Merit full ride.

I already told my friends if I see them looking for F^%cking Pokémon on their phones I'd slap them. This world is full of dumb asses I tell ya!

Is it just me or are today's youth easily entertained?? This crap all started with that stupid Candy Corn game a few years back.

At least it gets them off the couch...

That said, if you fall in a hole looking for Pikachu, I will Laughachu.
Sholz, you made me literally laugh so hard that poop came out of me. It's a good thing I was taking my regular 3pm dump.

I look at it like this. Would you like to have a kid sit on his butt on the couch playing video games complaining about it's too hot or would you like to have that kid in the park walking around like zombies with his friends. It's kind of fun to see my kids being active, wife active and even me up walking around with them. My kids are very active before this. I'm just glad for some of them couch sitting, doing nothing at all kids actually doing something.

Well, if they're falling off cliffs, as 2 have done in one California seacoast community, or getting hit by cars, or acting excited in a Holocaust museum, or getting shot at by property owners... then I'd say that's unhelpful activity.

But, yes, I'd like to see my teen son be more active. The daughter is fine, but the son just wants to play online chess and FPS games.

I don't get it. I mean, I don't get why people would be falling off cliffs (no sh!t? That happened?)

I also don't get the premise of it. Is there some GPS thing that the game has in it to tell you where you are? If so, who the hell puts a Pokemon near a cliff or whatever.

Jesus-- what ever happened to riding your bike around the neighborhood or when it was raining just playing Nintendo.

I have a teenage son who is pretty active in sports ( starts in High school in 2 sports as a freshman)and barely even knows what Tackle the man is, rarely played backyard baseball and has probably never went to park on Sunday afternoon to hoop it up . This generation is as soft as humanly possible. This is the kind of crap that entertains them

I don't have kids but this kind of crap depresses me to no end. What happened to all the neighborhood kids getting together on someone's front lawn and playing tackle football or 'make it take' half court basketball . . . or God forbid going down to the baseball field and playing Home Run Derby?

Ah the good ole days.

My son has autism. Its hard to get him to do anything physically active. I downloaded it yesterday to see if I could get him to get a little exercise. Yesterday we walked about a mile today we went out in the morning and did 3/4 of a mile and then almost another mile tonight. It has a GPS and we just walk around the neighborhood. Most of the monsters pop up on the sidewalk. I have seen a few other kids walking around with cell phones out so I assume they are playing as well.

I'm with you, clob. I don't even know what the hell Pokémon is.

Pokemon is big with the 6-10 year olds (more or less). I have a 23 year old and a 10 year old. Pokemon was huge in the 90s and they took a lot of my money in toys, shirts, games and pokemon cards. Amazingly, it made a comeback right in time for my youngest last year and made a second go around at my wallet. IMO, Pokemon probably spawned the popularity of Anime in the US. I had never even heard of Anime until Pokemon due to my son in the 90s, and then came along Dragon Ball Z, Digimon...[/QUOTE]

Check out Nintendo's stock!

Well Nintendo is making tons of money off of it. Its suppose to support walking for kids these days.
For major stakeholders like Nintendo, that’s not the only way they’re making money. Nintendo’s stock price has grown 51% in the week since Pokémon GO’s release, increasing from $17.50 on July 5 to $26.45 on July 13.

In addition, The Street reports the increase in share price has added $11 billion to Nintendo’s market cap over the course of just four trading days.

Here is a chart if this means anything.

The game also has more downloads then tinder. Has surpassed the number of active users on twitter and being used more then snapchat.

As of June 11, Forbes reported that some analysts estimate the game is bringing in $1.6 million per day on Apple devices alone, with at least 7.5 million total downloads in the United States.

Here is a little info for you guys and the game hasn't even released in every country yet. Clob jump on that train now before it leaves the station.

Good for you and your son. Autism is very difficult. I just prayed for you and your son.

See that is awesome about technology! I don't have a problem with teens at all doing this I just find it weird to see a 30 year old man looking for a freaking Pokémon. With all technology you'll have the good/great with the bad. If you're falling off cliffs and getting run over that's just plain sad .

Somebody told me yesterday-- 30 something year old dude- that over the weekend there was a knock at his front door. Two young kids were standing in his doorway. They explained to him that their phone told them that there was a Pikachu in his fenced in backyard and could they enter his yard to catch it.

So he did what anyone in that situation would do- he slammed the door in their faces and ran into his backyard and caught him a Pikachu.

Supposedly it uses information from gps and what's already available through google maps to generate the pokemon critters. Woodland creatures near woods, water types near lakes or rivers, ect ect. Landmarks are made into pitstops or pokestops or whatever. These areas you are able to replenish your supplies or items used to catch the critters, hence all the cars you see parking next to churches and cemeteries out of town.
There's something they call gyms where you can fight other people's critters they have collected. Not too sure what makes a gym but I think it's places like court houses & post offices. Apparently you find the pokecritters by turning on your cell camera and looking around for them. That might be why kids are blindly running around like zombies.
No, I don't play it but you cant go 10 minutes without hearing something on the radio or see on tv about it.

So we are up to level 3. There is a gym in our neighborhood and its al the HOA park right at the playground. You can't use the gym until you get to Level 5. There is a pokestop in the pavilion next to playground where we get more pokeballs. Right now we aren't actively seeking out monsters but we walk around the neighborhood and we get 3 or 4 monsters to pop up as we are walking by. According to my google fit app we are getting a little over a mile in about 30 minutes. My son has it all figured out so I pretty much push my daughter in the stroller behind him and make sure he doesn't walk out into the street without looking.

I'm curious if this is helping other children with Autism. I bet they're other stories some where on the internet! Good for you guys I hope this continues for you and your family.

but this is new and people hate change they don't understand. if you want to get your kids up and off the couch, why not give them a stick and hoop like we used to have?

dude, they didn't walk OFF a cliff. they went off-road and couldn't keep their footing. believe they are both okay after taking a tumble.

Just was responding to so.eone saying somebody fell off a cliff. But yes, I did see the article and read they were ok.

I guess this is what happens to average people that sit around all day and have a lack of vitamin D in their life. They get out into the wild and forget how to keep their footing. God help them if the zombies ever show up.
