The Yankees bought WhatBurger outa Chicago


Probably not IMMEDIATELY but there will be consessions, tried and true formulas that have made owners more money. Cut backs here, cutting corners there, switching indredients because it's more cost effective and "they'll never notice." Look at A&W, used to be stand alone and you'd get a mug with every float. Now the mug is seperate and you can usually get Long John Silvers with your burger... It's more cost effective that way.

Here is my simple, wishful hope for the new owners of Whataburger: expand the brand and add tater tots to the menu. Other than that, DON'T CHANGE ANYTHING! Whataburger is a Texas institution and wildly popular for a reason. If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

FB horn here's why they left corpus. Because corpus fvcking sucks.
Ex 1-- Whataburger was growing at a rapid pace and in need of people with MBA's to fill rolls as upper management with potential to make upper officer positions. They were offering jobs at $110,000 plus benefits and nobody with and MBA from SMU or Texas or TCU would take the jobs. They ended up raising the starting pay to $165,000--- and still nobody wanted the jobs. Plenty of people interviewed but none would relocate. The most common reason they were given--- because corpus sucks and nobody wanted to live there.

Whataburger knew they had to leave or they would be short staffed or stupid people staffed so they picked a fight with the city of corpus about expanding their building (knowing the couldn't because of a gas main that prevented further build out) and then when the city told them "NO you can't expand there" whataburger had its excuse to leave and go to SA.

Those same jobs are being offered at $105,000 and there's a log jam to get them.

Nobody wants to move to corpus anymore.

I remember when you did not have to tell the counter folks that you wanted only mustard, because it was a special order to ask for mayo, and I doubt if you could have even explained that you wanted ketchup anywhere but on the fries....

Mother was from Texas and I spent a couple years at UT-Arlington where I majored in beer drinking with a strong minor in road trips. I love Whataburger, Bob Wills, George Strait, bbq brisket and the Texas Longhorns. Not necessarily in that order. What would my status be? @LonghornMM I lean conservative politically.....

Doctors wrote prescriptions because the government told them to do so. Pain management specialists at university medical schools convinced the Joint commission that more narcotics would reduce pain without complications. Because 2000 years of medical tradition was wrong. Blame the schools, blame the government. Because they are guilty.

And here's something I haven't thought of... burger sales in the future might be on the decrease. Perhaps the owners of Whataburger see the writing on the wall and are selling at the right time.

Imagine a world without Whataburger. I can't. But it is indeed a possibility. Whataburger morphs into Whatacastle. The thought just sent shivers up my spine.

Now to mention the impact of losing all those jobs here in San Antonio as they go up to Chicago.

The good news is, all it takes is a smart Texan with a little money and boom we have a new Whataburger making burgers just like Texans want them.

Whataburger is a huge brand. And one of very few that was of this size to go up for sale. I'm one that does not believe for one moment that things will drastically change on the menu but rather, changes in the quantity of locations and new markets will be added. The fact is, the Whataburger itself will sell everywhere. Chicken fingers w/ white gravy, not so much out West or up north. So I do expect some trimmings on the menu for certain markets. But the burger itself, no so much.
