in the end.
For those unfamiliar with this name, he was a big time Boston mobster back in the day. The movie "The Departed" was loosely based of him being played by Jack Nicholson. Great flick.

He was found dead in prison this morning, after being knocked off, by I'm sure, some revenge hit. He had been previously been missing for decades and was found in California walking out of his apartment. Went to trial and found guilty.

Just thought we needed a little diversion from all the chaos that is "who's to blame.."

Well, this guy was blamed for a bunch of mobster murders, and got his in the end.

At least he made it out of the Federal Transfer City in OKC alive. I worked an officer there right after Trentadue hung himself . I am happy that I am not in that line of work anymore :)

Back in the day, when I was a baby cop in the gang unit, Whitey Bulger was a frequent topic at gang seminars. He had legendary OG status on a par with Joe "Peg Leg" Morgan, Cheyenne Cadena or Sonny Barger. This was the 1990s when Bulger was on the lam. Fast forward to 2002, I'm at the FBI Academy in Quantico for a month long training class. One day I'm wandering around and I come across the wall....you know the one they talk about. Has all of the FBI's most wanted on it. There was Whitey Bulger looking back at me from the #2 position.....#1 on the list at the time? Some dude named Osama bin Laden. Now both of them have assumed room temperature.....

Yup. he ran South Boston..period, no ifs or buts, still same SB even though he is gone, them Southies are clannish and outsiders beware! Everybody knows everybody over there, them Irish are like fleas on a dog...Sister in law lives in Hartford , we took a day trip to Boston, while the girls shoopped I found me a little Irish bar, told the bartender I was from Texas and we started talking and I told him about Texas and he told me about South Boston, they still take care of their Biz without the Police...LOL

My last partner in patrol was from South Boston. He used to entertain the hell out of me with his stories of growing up there. Tough place. He was an Italian kid, and the Italians and the Irish didn't play well together. He ended up in the army to get out of there. Was a helluva boxer back in the day. I'll never forget the day the bastard pepper-sprayed me on a call....

I really got lucky coming on the force when I did. My department had just started a gang unit. I volunteered figuring there was no way they'd take a rookie with less than two years on...except they needed Spanish speakers badly. Lucked out again when they needed someone with any kind of interest in history to put together a sort of gang history for training purposes. The only stuff they had was on black gangs and MC's and they were trying to play catch-up on Hispanic gangs. When they found out I had majored in history, I got the shoulder tap. This was before the interwebs so I got a bunch of books paid for by the department. Not a bad deal.

One thing is for sure there's no loyalty in the mob, mafia, cartel or street gang. Most will rat once it comes to being locked up for a long time with no freedom.

That's true nowadays, ain't no more " Happy Days" and the worst Fing I ever got was from Family! Unfortunately you have trust problems with them sometimes...there's always someone looking to get at someone to advance their selves in this world!

It was a padlock in a sock. And he couldn't get out of his wheelchair. Umm, ouch. Probably not a good idea to refuse protective custody and go into the gen pop.

You're right, Scholz. I did read that it was a padlock. Not sure why I said batteries.

Pretty sure I'd rather have the strangulation and Saudi bone saw.

Ha! That just cracked me up in a macabre way. Of all of the intelligence services in the world, the Saudis are perhaps the biggest clownshoes. If your dumb a$$ walks into a room for a meeting and there's 15 dudes waiting for you in a room, GTFO of there. Have some situational awareness. The Saudis are (and have always been) about as subtle as a serial rapist at a nunnery.

I read that he was offed by a guy who was known to hate guys who hurt women. Apparently Whitey roughed up some ladies in his day....maybe there IS honor amongst thieves?

From the information available, he walked through the door and was immediately strangled from behind.

Also, your analogy needs to be updated. There have been/are/continue to be serial rapists and pedophiles hiding in nunneries.
