For me it was the tackling especially in the second half. After about 7 years of being out of position, failure to wrap up, I saw the Texas Longhorns play defense the way the Texas Longhorns are supposed to play defense.

Before we finally scored we were behind 20/0. They had almost 300 yards of offense. We only had a few first downs. I admit I was starting to think is it going to be another 63/14? On their first possession of the second half they moved the ball downfield but we held them to a field goal. But our defense was starting to raise their game. Although we gave up the winning td I came away thinking we are building a real Texas Longhorns defense. It's been a long time coming.

The punting i can see why Michael Dickson was a third team AA last year. Now that i think about it both punters played great. It wouldn't surprise me if both Dickson and Siebert were first and second team AA at the punter position Dickson being first team of course. With the exception of field goal kicking we are solid at special teams. Blocking fgs, running back punts, and field position we are solid everywhere else.

Sam Ehlinger was a real man out there today. Besides throwing the ball for 278 yards he was our leading rusher. He carried the ball 22 times four over 110 yards. OK was geared to stop Warren, Porter, and Carter, so Sam took matters into his own hands. And no fumbles, no interceptions. So far as a true freshman he's lost two very close games to a couple of teams that are legitimate playoff contenders. And we have a game coming up against another playoff contender this Saturday, OSU and another in three weeks, TCU.

And as far as negatives go the biggest question is the ol and the running game. Needless to say the two go hand in hand. We have a good ol but most of them are hurt and some of them are out for the season. To the best of my memory the only ones that have started every game are Shackelford and Vahe. Correct me if I'm wrong. I don't know how to spell his name but isn't number 68 a true freshman? They started out good but wore out in the end when all the penalties started. We need for this bunch to jell and like pronto. OSU and TCU are coming up soon. I believe in Tom Herman

They played hard and didn't give up. Actually took the lead in the fourth quarter. After our last touchdown nothing went right, just one of those things. I still think the team is on the right track. It might not come together this season because of injuries and inexperience on offense, but I'm still optimistic for the future. For that are down in the offensive coaching, it is really difficult to scheme when you do not have a rushing attack from the RBs. We are one dimensional. Sam makes it better though.

Texas has been down for several years in a row for a number of factors and it will take some more time to match historical standards and if every player played with the desire and efforts like Sam it would not take very long..

We are far from being a 10 win team but we are closer than we were for the last 3 years.

We start slow, and that sucks, BUT I have seen one thing out of this team that I never saw under any of Charlie strong's teams---

We have yet to quit during a game. They keep fighting.

And that, boys, is step #1 in building a winner.

He did recruit some talent at Texas. But in the Charlie Strong era the Texas Longhorns wanted to win but deep down expected to lose. And I agree with you that while the Texas Longhorns may not have a great w/l record this year the previous attitude I spoke of is gone for good.

I'm curious if the posters on this board agree with your coach referring to Mayfield as the best player in the country?

Click bait
It's pretty straight forward really. Do you need me to post the quote?

Here's the exact quote: “An offense like that, with the best player in the country at quarterback, they’re going to make some plays" - Tom Herman after the loss

I hate to say it, but he's a good player. His 5, 6, or however many years he's been in college really helps. Lots of players would be as good as him if they would stick around that long. I hope Sam stays 4 years, he'll be pretty damn hard to stop when he's a senior if he stays on his current trajectory.

No Bell I saw the post game interview and Herman can say what he wants, but we all know ou fans started to melt down after their twerking queen went down I agree that he is the best twerker in college football.

Well he was certainly the best player in the country yesterday. The way he slipped under our 6'7" defensive tackles grip drove me crazy. All those scrambles, avoiding sacks drove me crazy as well. And as much as I hate tip admit it he was an AA on that game winning drive.

Herman was probably correct when he said that. It's hard to measure who the best is though.

Before I say this I AM NOT again I AM NOT comparing twerking queen to Aaron Rodgers but it shows all it takes is one hit to end his season. And Rodgers is great at escaping and making plays but Barr got a hold of him and ended his season.

For me, Mayfield's the best that I've seen come through OU. I'm still not sure how he wasn't offered out of high school considering all of the mediocre starting and even backup qb's around the country at D1 schools.

I'm not necessarily saying he's the best player in the country, I was just curious if the fans agreed with their coach's assertion that he was.

So what's your point? It takes only one hit to end anyone's season, we all understand that. Mayfield took a few good shots, including the one that probably should have been called but shook it off and won the game for us.

That he is not built to last, how long has he been in college 6 years? I would hope he was a decent player by year 6

Barring a total meltdown, this may be the 3rd year he's in the top 5 Heisman race. Off the top of your head name another player that can say that, much less another 2 time walk on. All time single season passing efficiency leader ring a bell?

I think next year could be a big year for Texas, but In order for that to happen Herman has to get a kicker in here. Paying one at this point doesn’t sound like a bad idea.

I bet it sucks not winning a Natty with him.

Not yet,I will wait till the end of season since Ou will have some tough games yet to play. One of the things he has going for him is a good OL in front of him.He seemed to be able to move around and spot wideouts downfield with not much pressure from Texas on key plays in the game. If you give a good QB that much time,he will burn you like he did.It makes me wonder what Kingsbury of Tech let him transfer to Ou when he was a QB himself.

Haha, well let's see boys: Tom Herman's opinion vs a couple armchair qb's. Hmm that's a brain buster:)

Think a lot of mayfield being the best "in the country" was the fact TEXAS defense seemed to playing touch football when they got close to him. I don't know how many missed tackles they had on that kid.....and when they missed he made them pay.

Herman thought before the season and stated the OL and DL lines were the strength of the team,Really???I will hold off making judgements on how good Mayfield is until the end of the season.

Mayfield does this to everyone not just Texas. He has an uncanny ability to break tackles and scramble. He is very hard to bring down

He didn't break this tackle

Are you calling me a twerker? Did I say something wrong?
