Who’s left standing after @Ketchum nuclear tweet this afternoon. I need to make sure there is enough fodder left in the Corral to stick around. Without sports, the only world topics worth discussing these days are Corral worthy in the current day And age.

I am not going to make an immediate judgement to cancel myself, but I may take a timeout and see how I feel. Consider me a renaissance man. I like the toxicity and the political battles in the Corral in my evening after work dose. It is kind of like going to the boxing gym for an hour after work.

However, the 24/7 toxicity culture is not healthy and I feel like that has taken over the 40 acres board as well. I leave the 40 acres angry most of the time and that’s not enjoyable. I don’t fully blame Ketch part of it is the demoralization that has occurred in this country over the last decade that has led to this point.

We all joined this site for love of the University we attended and the pride in the sports teams. We are at a point in time where a tradition has been ripped away from us and divided the board on political lines and than the site owner (with whatever intention) decides to lob a hot take grenade between the black and white players and former players. That is a step so far and unhealthy that you cannot even see the gray line that he was trying to walk as a casual observer. It feels like he was trying to make the most divisive tweet possible in the most divisive time when everyone is already 3 months On tilt. I do believe ketch has good intentions, but is much more emotional than logical. It takes a healthy balance of empathy and logic. You have to be better than your 18 year old self.

I have had a 16 year run as a paid subscriber. It is a hell of run. I imagine ketch has some of the longest tenured paying customers in any form of internet media. It is sad to see the overall community divided. I cannot think of a single topic that we can now rally behind and escape from the toxicity.

I’ll be around probably until November, but this might be my last run. I will experiment with time on and off the board to determine if it is a net positive in my life. I don’t care about the 100 bucks a year, but I am not going provide charity for a website that has strayed too far off course.
