I think it's great that our OC is using our badass FR QB as a battering ram. Solid game plan.
A couple of years ago, Briles got crucified on this board for playing Bryce Petty with a broken bone in his back - Briles was accused of sacrificing anyone and anything to win a game.
The last two weeks, I've seen (a) Sam take a terrific beating, (b) Sam lay motionless at the Cotton Bowl for several minutes, and (c) Sam make two horrific bonehead plays (the 4th down throw away vs. OU, and the int. in the end zone vs. OSU). Now he is being inspected for a concussion. Either he should never have been back out there (at least against OU), or he doesn't have the football IQ to lead a D-I championship team. None of us will ever know for sure, but I'm leaning towards the former.
I love his fire, but he will never last 4 years (and probably not 4 more games) running him every other play and without ever sliding..
If that is the answer, then he doesn't have the IQ to lead a team to D-I glory. This is two weeks in a row of bonehead plays. I don't care what your experience level - you don't lob it to an uncovered defender, and you don't throw it out of bounds on 4th down. And BTW - I'm giving a pass on the USC fumble. And to accept that the concussion protocol can't be tampered with, spun, pressured or whatever you want to call it with the game and season on the line - I'll be polite and call that naivete. Especially in light of the evaluations he is now undergoing. But just my 2 cents.Really? Briles is a POS we know that let's not compare the two instances either. Sam is a freshmen QB he's going to make mistakes and acting as if UT doesn't go through concussion protocol is dumb. He has already explained why he threw the lob but I guess that's not good enough.

In Beck's godawful scheme where he runs Chris Warren sideways I agree with you.Sam...[is]...our most effective runner so they will keep calling on him to run.

Heard was moved to qb .. coach's better get creative and figure out something
Isn't that basically what Greg Ward did for Herman at UH last year? Why not at this point. 10 pts against OSU with what we're currently doing is nothing short of abysmal.Put Heard in at Wild Cat so we can run.

Baylor is no. 125 in total defense, no. 113 rushing defense, no. 125 passing defense and no. 123 in scoring defense. Boo will be fine for one week.think Sam is out this week and Heard was moved to qb .. coach's better get creative and figure out something
Ward was still a good passer though not so sure Heard is up to Ward's accuracy but as far as running/speed yeah they have the same abilities.
Both plays he was injured on were out of bounds with his head snapping to the turf...not battering ram plays. The problem is how Sam runs. He always tries to get the extra yardage. He needs to go down when someone is coming up to hit him, run out of bounds earlier and not make them throw him out of bounds. Sam needs to start protecting himself better. He's our most effective runner so they will keep calling on him to run.
Serious question...ya'll have two 3 star OL committed so far, what causes you to think next year's OL will be significantly different? We need an offensive line to best evaluate Sam. Therefore, I will reserve my judgment until next year.

We have a true freshman and a Sophomore as starting tackles due to injuries.
Get some guys back from injury and hopefully the younger guys we are playing progress.

He's a tough kid but I agree it's not healthyI think it's great that our OC is using our badass FR QB as a battering ram. Solid game plan.
The rest of this year, spring practice and falll drills will provide that much more mental maturity, experience and the weight room will provide physical maturity as compared to where we are 1/2 way into this season.Serious question...ya'll have two 3 star OL committed so far, what causes you to think next year's OL will be significantly different?
I think we should continue to run a QB power every third play and throw it another 40 times. at least until we have no scholarship quarterbacks left and have to use a WR at QB like baylor did not too long ago.I think it's great that our OC is using our badass FR QB as a battering ram. Solid game plan.
SO, none of that is on SAM and the way he plays the game. Slide kid.I think it's great that our OC is using our badass FR QB as a battering ram. Solid game plan.
That's kind of a "fool me once..." situation. The coaches know how Sam plays. They're supposed to be the real adults in the room. It's up to them to make the point to slide EVERY freakin' time.SO, none of that is on SAM and the way he plays the game. Slide kid.
The kid runs because his OL collapses and he takes people head on our gets driven out of bounds and drives his head off the turf, that's not on Beck. His designed runs are limited. That's kind of a "fool me once..." situation. The coaches know how Sam plays. They're supposed to be the real adults in the room. If they fail to do that, it becomes their game plan, as Scholz "sarcastimplied".
