Is this the guy that Strong hired and had that "county fair" program or some crap? It's giving me great concern that our coach Riley, whom I like as a really good offensive mind, appears to have a propensity to hire folks he previously worked with or played under at Tech. They don't really scream national title quality. I personally want nothing to do with any coach coming out of Tech. Leach's offense approach, refined, being the only exception. Riley needs to develop a nasty, step on your throat attitude that I'm afraid he didn't get taught under Leach.

He was a horrible hire.. our S&C regressed under him..did you guys really hire him ? He was under Fat Dog Madden so maybe that was the problem.

Bennie Wylie out as Texas S&C coach, Pat Moorer likely coming from Louisville
You just confirmed my fear. Yeah I remember how bad your S&C appeared under him. Now I'm just waiting for Riley to name Ruffin the new DC. Trust me, he will be worse than what we have now.

I have heard rumors from your board and here on the radio in okc that they are waiting for signing day before any moves concerning Mike stoops will happen. More than likely not but concerning Bennie, I thought he had a huge gym down there in texes and was on some tv show. He has been away from college for a while but worked with Riley at Tech. I think that is what I have heard.

Bill Bedenbaugh is a good O-line coach. Dennis Simmons wide receiver coach of 2 Biletnikoff award winners is good. This makes 4 that coached at Tech. Bennie Wylie and Simmons were in Lubbock when they beat Texas and ranked #2 till OU beat them in Norman. I think he will do fine with OU’s talent. His work at Texas isn’t a barometer anyway.

Just hope the issue was that Mad Dog was still around making for 2 bosses.

Youre right, the offensive coaches out of Tech have all been Big 12 good and the way Riley makes running the ball a big priority is probably enough to win you a NC but my concern is if he hires someone from the defensive side from Tech. I remember distinctly who the DC was on that Tech team that was No. 2 until they played OU and not only got throttled but looked like a deer in the headlights, AND HE’s ALREADY ON STAFF AT OU.

Wylie is legit. Dude knows what he was doing. He was hamstrung by Mad Dog. We literally had an S&C coach who would coach with a bull horn from his desk in his office. Things went down hill so Mack promoted him to Assistant AD for S&C and brought in Wylie only Mad Dog still had control over the programs nuts and bolts. Wylie never got to fully implement his program.

It's no secret that Fat Dog Madden cut off Wylie at the knees. Did he felt threatened who knows. It was no secret in Austin that Madden didn't have the slightest idea about what an s&c coach does to prepare a fb team for a season. During the summer somebody else ran the off season workouts. Wylie might be a good s&c coach.

Pretty much every post 2010 Mack hire has gone on to have success elsewhere after failing here. I think we all know what the real problem was by now.

Madden absolutely knew what it took to be a successful s&c coach as he was for many years. He just absolutely didn't give a crap anymore after a certain point in time.

As recently as 2008 a man named Ken Rucker ran the off season workouts. Where was Madden?

Mad Dog coached from his office regularly during his tenure at Texas. It started becoming a more regular occurrence as his tenure progressed. Ken Shepard was his right hand man and ran things until he was hired away when Chizick went to Iowa State. When Shepard left Donnie Maib took over most of those duties. I thought Rucker was the high school relations guy.

Ken Rucker was on the foorball team but not on the coaching staff. That summer in 2008 Kirk Bohls kept writing about what a great job Rucker was doing and that Madden wasn't good at getting out on the field and working with the players. If I recall correctly KR was on the staff but hat to step down because of cancer. Ok you've worked with players before. What kind of s&c coach works from his office? Is this normal? I'm not trying to be sarcastic.

Riley is not a step on your throat coach. He is a whimpy geek. That little crying display by Charlie in the box at the PC for crotch grabber should have cost him his job. Charlie actually paused 35 seconds before he cried like a little b****.
