It’s a bummer, but there will always be some amount of injuries.

Hopefully it’s not crippling combinations such as last year with the entire back 7 of the defense (which I think will see less injuries with the new tackling style), or all 4 scholarship running backs....or of course the QB

Some reports are that it is minor and he could play if needed but since it's UTEP there is no reason to rush him back.
