Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian was asked to evaluate the performance of Quinn Ewers during the SEC Championship Game during a college football playoff conference call on Sunday afternoon.
Here is Sarkisian's point of view.
"I actually thought the guy who probably had one of the best games on offense was Quinn," Sarkisian said. "He stood in there and we didn't block some things very well. Took some hits. He made plays outside the pocket. I thought it was really accurate with the ball. We had a season-high of drops in a game yesterday, which was uncharacteristic for us. So, we've got to play together better, collectively, The run game's got to go better against these defensive fronts. We got to make our plays in the passing game when opportunities present themselves. All of that, whatever we want to do, we got to push that group to another level as we get into the CFP, knowing that all the opponents we will be playing are quality opponents."
In addition, Sarkisian said, "Super gutsy performance from Quinn. He's not 100% but he battled and he competed. Like I said, there weren't a whole lot of just clean pockets. They do a great job of making it muddy for the quarterback. I thought he did a much better job of stepping up in the pocket, delivering throws under duress, in the tight windows, getting outside the pocket, making plays that way. All in all, I was pleased with that. I sure wish for him,we could have found a way to dial something up to get somebody really open for him there when we got down there late, Just couldn't get that done.
"Like I said, I was really proud of him. I know he feels good about having the ability to move around a little bit. He hasn't been able to do that in quite some time."
