This is the first year in a long time that we have known commodities as most every position on the offense. When was the last time offensively, we could look at the starting offense and have a pretty good idea of what you are going to get. WR's are going to be good, RB's are going to be improved from last year, QB is QB with Sam, OL is going to be more experienced and probably more athletic than it has been in years. This is one of the few years in the last decade of mediocrity that we can look to the offense to carry this team when needed.
Over the last 24 seasons, going back all the way to 1995, the Texas offense has broke 42 points per game only twice: 2005 VY national championship team and 2008 Colt, Shipley, Quan team.I think this offense is going to be scary good next year. I could see this offense averaging over 42 pts a game.
I've been saying a long time that our defense won't be bad it will be thin and we will lack some depth at corner and linebacker, but as long as we are healthy the defense will still be ranked in the top 30 and maybe top 20.
What makes me less concerned is that we generally run some version of a 3-3-5 or a 4-2-5 defense. That allows us to get more of our safeties on the field and that is a very very good thing.
IMO the key to this defense is going to be DeMarvion Overshown. He is a perfect hybrid linebacker safety that can hit like a linebacker and cover like a safety. He is an absolute beast. He is too quick for a TE or Tackle to block off the edge and he can blanket any TE or cover any RB out of the backfield.
Our defense will be ready when it counts, as long as we can keep the injuries down we are going to be great.
