RECAP

Despite putting a few base runners on, LHP Jared Spencer kept Santa Clara off the board using a three pitch mix (fastball up to 97, slider, and changeup), racking up eight strikeouts in the process.

In the Bottom 5th, the Horns offense finally pushed some runs across after having threatened in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th but the ball just wouldn't fall in. No matter, the Horns offense continued to grind and came away with the lead.

Rylan Galvan led off the inning with a double to get things started. With one out, Max Belyeu was hit by a pitch on the first pitch he saw, bringing up the hottest bat on the team, Jalin Flores. On a 1-1 count, Flores hit a liner out to left CF which dropped in as the OF had been playing more straight up, which brought home Rylan Galvan and Max Belyeu who put on the jets and slid in before the tag at home, giving the Horns a 2-0 lead.

In the Top 6th, Jared Spencer gave way to Max Grubbs who gave up a lead off single and eventually gave up a liner into RF to make it 2-1 Horns.

In the Bottom 6th, the Horns answered right away as Casey Borba led off the inning with a no doubter to LF that landed in the street (408 feet) to give the Horns a 3-1 lead. Unfortunately, the Horns were not able to push any further runs across despite getting more guys on the base paths.

After both teams went down 1-2-3 in the 7th, Max Grubbs sat the Broncos down quickly 1-2-3 in the Top 8th, giving the Horns another crack offensively. After two quick outs, the Horns drew four walks in a row, the last by Max Belyeu to make it 4-1 Horns.

In the Top 9th, Max Grubbs was back out to finish out the game, giving up a 1 out walk and then a 2 out flare to shallow RF that scored the runner from 2B to make it 4-2 Horns. Grubbs battled back though and got a strikeout to the end game and seal the victory for the Horns, their 11th in a row.

BIG MOMENT

In the Bottom 6th, the Horns came to bat leading 2-1, having just given up a run in the Top 6th.

Casey Borba came to the plate and on a 2-1 pitch, hit a 408 foot BorBomb to LF onto the street to give the Horns a 3-1 lead.

INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE

Jalin Flores is simply en fuego right now. Jalin has 10 XBH in the last 6 games and has increased his average to .356 on the season.

Tonight, Flores hit the big 2 run RBI double to give the Horns the 2-0 lead and collected an additional 2 bagger on the evening.

TAKEAWAYS

A win is a win. Santa Clara has a veteran pitching rotation and they did just enough to keep the Texas hitters off the board. The Horns offense had a lot of quality at-bats, including multiple hits with triple digit exit velos that just fell short or were right at a defender.

Overall, the defense played really well tonight which is great to see.

Lastly, Spencer and Grubbs were their sharpest and yet still did plenty enough to win, which is what you want to see day in and day out.
