TEAM NOTES

• With the win, Texas improves to 1-1 on the season.

• Texas is now 1-0 all-time against San Jose State and 14-1 against teams from the current Mountain West Conference.

• The win marks Tom Herman’s first victory at Texas. He is now 23-5 in his head coaching career.

• Texas is now 13-5-1 all-time in games following a season-opening loss.

• Texas totaled 623 yards of total offense, the 15th-most in school history. The Longhorns had 406 yards on the ground.

• QB Sam Ehlinger and TE Kendall Moore each made the first start of their Longhorn careers.

• Sam Ehlinger’s start at QB marked the first time since 1976-79 that a Longhorn true freshman has started at the position in consecutive seasons. Shane Buechele started 12 games in 2016 as a true freshman.

• The Longhorns’ defense posted its first shutout since a 23-0 win at Kansas in 2014. It was the first home shutout since a 45-0 win over New Mexico in 2012.

INDIVIDUAL NOTES

• True freshman quarterback Sam Ehlinger made his first career start in the game. He is the 10th true freshman to start a game at QB in Texas Football history and just the eighth to win a game.

• Chris Warren became the 51st player in school history to surpass the 1,000-yard mark for rushing yards in a career. He finished the game with 16 carries for 166 yards and two touchdowns.

• Holton Hill returned an interception 45 yards for a touchdown. It was his third touchdown of the season.

• The only other time in school history that a Longhorn has returned an interception for a touchdown in back-to-back games was Alan Lowry on Oct. 23 and Oct. 30 of 1971. The program last did so during the 2007 season.

• Hill now has three career interceptions returned for a touchdown and is tied for second all-time. Michael Huff (2002-05) owns the school record with four.

• RB Kyle Porter’s third quarter rushing touchdown was the first of his career. He rushed 16 times for 72 yards, both career highs.
